I can't post on the Conf Exp board yet and am about to leave, so throwing this here:

I hear Oklahoma, OK State and 2 other B12 schools approached Big Ten as package and were told no. Academic reasons.

quote:

greggdoyelcbs Gregg Doyel
Big Ten "academic issue:" All its schools are in prestigious Association of American Universities - OU, OSU aren't

The original 11 of the Big Ten are in the AAU. Not newbie Nebraska.

Nebraska was an AAU member until this year

quote:

University of Nebraska–Lincoln (1909–2011)
Removed from the AAU.[6] Chancellor Harvey Perlman claimed that the lack of an on-campus medical school (the Medical Center is a separate campus of the University of Nebraska system), and the AAU's disregarding of USDA-funded agricultural research in its metrics, hurt the university's performance in the association's internal ranking system.[5] In 2010 Perlman stated that had Nebraska not been part of the AAU, the Big Ten would likely not have invited it to become the athletic conference's 12th member.[2]

Who were the other 2 schools? Mizzou & ISU? Kansas & KU? I really want to know.

Poor Okies, too fricking stupid to change conferences.

I'm not sure that he was referring to Nebraska as the loser, maybe Doyel?

Mizzou & ISU?

Makes the most sense.

Mizzou for their ties with Illinois, and ISU for their obvious ties with Iowa.

Kansas & KSU?

lolz at them

OU and OSU need to go SEC or Pac10. They don't fit with the B1G culture anyways

Oklahoma is going to get royally fricked in this deal. They're not getting into the big 10 (and Notre Dame is damn sure not going to the big 12), so I see one of three possibilities:

1) Texas goes independent, eaves Oklahoma in a conference that is no better than the big east.

2) Texas goes to the Big 10- leaving Oklahoma in a conference thats no better than the big east

3) Texas Stays in the Big 12- and uses its superior bargaining position to bitch slap the other schools (including oklahoma) at will.

4) Both schools go the PAc 12, which never works out quite riht because neither school comes close to fitting in with the culture of the west coast.

Just my thoughts.

Oklahoma won't get royally fricked. Kansas/Kansas State/Iowa St/Baylor/Texas Tech are going to get royally fricked.

Oklahoma will always be attractive, their problem is they have Okie St joined at the hip. At worst they'll be a big fish in a little pond with those other schools.

If A&M leaves, OU will be the next one to jump, SEC or Pac-10. OU & Texas have only been in the same conference since '96

Per ESPN/Longhorn network contract UT must stay in B12( in whatever frm it takes) or go indy

30 million over the next 20 years allows UT time to just do its thing while everyone else scrambles

in whatever form it takes the B12 will still have a decent mens and womens basketball
every other sorts loses money anyway
by virtue of the network other sports at least break even at Texas long term IMO

Just like I said last night:

Texas, and Texas Tech.

Oklahoma and Oklahoma State.

It would be a BOLD move for the Big Ten to turn that down if that's what happened.

I think it makes the most sense for OU, OSU, TAMU, and one other school to join the SECW, Auburn and Alabama move to the East

SEC W
OU
OSU
TAMU
School X
LSU
Arkansas
Ole Miss
MSU

SEC E
Alabama
Auburn
Tennessee
Vanderbilt
Kentucky
South Carolina
Georgia
Florida
