Are you serious with this question?

I mean, I get that it sucks for you and your ability to earn a living, but do you really not get why people are concerned with both of those cities?

You live in a designated flood plain/relief area.

Sorry for your potential loss, but you take a risk when you live where you live.

It seems that all caution is thrown to the wind now that the Morganza will be opened. Its unfair that man will make water divert on to someone else to protect precious N.O and Baton Rouge. I guess I am just venting because it affects me and my way of life and how I make a living.

It's like the sheriff in Pointe Coupee Parish said last week at a meeting with the levee board and ACOE......the people that farm there knew that if the water got high again like it did before then they would open the spillway.....if they open the spillway your farm land will be flooded.....They decided to take the risk....I would say that it is a good risk considering this is only the 2nd time the damn thing has been opened for a flood.

So you propose flooding NOLA and BR to save the smaller communities?

Which is why I am a little frustrated with the pussy footing about opening the Morganza. They know what will happen if they don't so why put that much more strain on the levees. Start relieving it now!

The "possible" opening date keeps getting pushed further and further back, yet everyone seems to agree that there is no doubt that it must be opened.

I'm certainly no engineer and do not pretend to be one, but I'd hate to see bureaucratic delay allow a somewhat preventable disaster (or at least one that can be mitigated) to occur. It feels like the government is standing in the middle of the road watching a speeding car come at them, but yet trying to wait until the last possible second to jump out of the way.

becuase I live under a mile from the river, and if the levee breaches, things will suck.

I sympathize because my relatives in the Morgan City are are likely to be flooded out.

Do they live in the Lakeside subdivision? If so, I hear that will be the area most likely to be hit hard.

IMO they are going to announce tomorrow (Thursday) that they are going to open the Morganza either Sunday or Monday morning.....this gives the people at least 3 or 4 days official notice to get their shite out over the weekend....honestly I think thats the best way for them to do this.

That's where my relatives live - right near a rising lake.

I agree people need the time it just seems that they are cutting it too close. I understand that no one wants to open the Morganza due to the thousands it will flood and the millions in property damage but why prolong the inevitable and let the river get that much closer to a catastrophe of epic proportions in NOLA and BR.

They said on Monday that it would be at the earliest Saturday the latest Tuesday, not to mention they are apparently waiting on the flow rate to get to the level that they have set

My mom and my sister's houses should be good. They didn't flood in 1973 and shouldn't now.

Not Tuan sure where his family lives.

You can't be serious.
If Baton Rouge was flooded, Shreveport and Lake Charles might as well annex with Texas, Monroe could become part of Arkansas and I will be moving to Orlando, Dallas or Atlanta.

Flooding Baton Rouge would be the end of Louisiana as we know it! New Orleans is already vulnerable.

This.

It is not like these guys are sitting around flipping coins and taking guesses. When the flow rate hits the required number, the gates will be open.

Not according to what they are saying. Its fricking bureaucracy. They said we will reach the 1.5 million mark Saturday, now they are saying it could be as late as Thursday before its open.
