Anti,
Make sure when you are making discussion choices to choose a path and stick with it. The game is much more enjoyable when you are fanatical to one side or the other. Also Rickles is right about the Soldier in the first one. I started over after a few hours playing to use the soldier.
Rickles,
You drilling in La or did you make the switch to Texas yet?

ME and ME2 are some of my favorite games for xbox ever, period. Biotics on ME2 are stupid fun, they really made them great. I pretty much skipped biotics altogether in ME1.
Soldier in ME1, infiltrator in ME2, yes that's right. And don't forget you're not fricking superman. You can take some shots and be okay (depending on the difficulty obv) but you do need to keep behind cover and strategize. You need to learn your allies' skills and abilites and use them to the fullest. Make your team composition a good mix on ME2, you can do most of ME1 with just mostly combat and tech. ME2 I was infiltrator, and usually had Grunt and Dr. Mordin. Mordin's biotics are ridiculous once you get him leveled, and Grunt's a great tanky character that puts out some good damage.

I bought all of the weapon packs and armor packs from the PS Store for ME2. All together its about $9 tops and it adds conversation, ridiculous weapons, new armor and alternate appearances for your team. I highly suggest this. Some of the heavy weapons you get are comically powerful and you just sorta walk around with your dick out and kill everything.

I'm officially with the 72nd BSTB MI Co. in Houston now. I'm in a PL slot with a chance to get the XO slot soon. Not too shabby, but I do miss the 415th. CPT P keeps sending me e-mails for updated OCRs tho, what's with that? How's Afghanistan going for them?

enlighten me then on the many many flaws.
Pros: Great story. Great graphics.
Cons: Terrible combat. Extremely repetitive. Gathering resources is miserable. Side quests are awful. The A.I. is horrible; the main strategy in combat is taking advantage of A.I. flaws. The loot system is not rewarding.
Basically, the main RPG elements are fantastic, but anything related to combat is atrocious.
I would recommend playing straight through the storyline without following any side quests or anything. I am a bit of a completionist, so I always get really bored trying to do everything in Mass Effect.

good series. I think they're straying too far into pure action with the second one, but I enjoyed both games thoroughly.
I ended up trading in my copy before a lot of the DLC was released, which is a bummer, but I don't think I'll be too much out of the loop with 3. I'll probably just read some plot summaries of the extra shite. Hopefully there isn't any content in the sequel that's off limits if you didn't play the DLC. That'd suck.
I'm curious how they will deal with party formation in the third. What with all the different outcomes of the second game and all... Lots of people that have a 50/50 shot of actually being alive by the time of the 3rd game.

I agree that gathering resources and the loot system is not rewarding, but I never got bored with the combat. It was always fun for me, but I used many characters and experimented to find my favorite team.. didn't find it til towards the end.
I didn't mind the side quests either, I think I did all of those.
Thing that sucked for me was I played ME1 on my brother's Xbox back when I lived with my mom.. then ME2 on my xbox once I lived on my own, but that xbox got stolen. So when ME3 comes out, I'll have to start all over again. So I won't get to have the experience of playing from 1-3 using the same people unless I buy 1-3 and play 1 & 2 again.

it seemed like Bioware responded to criticism by cutting out the features that people complained about rather than trying to tweak them.
People bitched about the planet exploration sequences, so they cut them. They added in that lame DLC tank mission, but it was worse than the original vehicle missions IMO.
People bitched about the way that inventory management was set up, so they cut it down to almost nothing.
Not a big fan of that approach.

I actually just went back and did a quick run through of ME and doing my full run through of ME2 for my ME3 run.

I think the newest edition of GameInformer will be covering ME3, so a lot of new info on the way hopefully. I love the continuity of the story but I wasn't enamored with the fact that most decisions you made in ME1 ended up as someone emailing you in ME2. Hopefully they make it more rewarding.

All I know is that stupid reporter bitch said something to me in the second one, and I just clocked her in the face. Satisfying.

I liked the story better in the 1st ME, and the combat better in the 2nd. I agree with the person stating soldier in ME1, and Infiltrator in ME2. Using overload/incinerate on pyro troops is pretty cool.
The first storyline is epic IMO. A "Usual Suspects" or "LA Confidential" type surprise just when you think you got a handle on things.
For those saying they didnt enjoy either, all I can say is "to each their own".
I have been video gaming since the late 70s, and the ME series rates with anything I have ever seen/played. The evolving story is what sets it apart from other games.
Very few gaming franchises pull ya in like ME.
EDIT....BTW if you choose Infiltrator in ME2, there will come a point you can choose another weapon. I suggest Assault Rifle. With the weapons pack, you will have the Matlock AR and Incisor Sniper Rifle. Those 2 will burn down just about anything(you have incinerate besides for close up mobs). Throw in the Locust SMG if you have Kasumi DLC, and you will be set for final battle where ammo can get tight.

Just read the article....
They said that this is the final of the series.. so everything you did in 1 and 2 will be completed.
Saving the Rachni queen, etc... will all come to play
Also, every main character (if they lived) will be making appearances. Some playable, ashley, garrus. others will be a major part, legion, Mordin.. etc.
also, the 3rd will start with a short "previously, on Mass Effect..." film where you can see the decisions you made to lead you to this point...
there was a small note that melee weapons will play a bigger part and no mining but there will be another type of system like that.
