Who honestly has a problem with preseason #1 in football?

Every publication seems to tout us as a preseason #1 for 2011, but as soon as someone post a thread about it, it gets dragged down by guys saying that they would rather be #10 or so instead of #1 in the preseason.
That is complete horseshite. If you cannot win enough games to make it to the NC ranked #1, then you were not going to win enough games ranked #10. Also, if a poll puts us at #10, you people would post 10+ threads talking about how "_____ hates LSU" and how LSU is better than the other 9 teams by far.
Everyone needs to take the preseason accolades in stride and hope LSU performs accordingly. Being #1 does not put any more pressure on the players than what already exist from the coaches/fans/media. If you don't want to wear the bulls-eye on your chest then GTFO.

FWIW...I personally do got us top 10...

LSU is a historically bad #1 team. I'd rather be #2 the entire season until the final poll.

I like being #1, cause IF you lose early you have enough time to make up ground. I just don't see LSU losing a game this year. The team IS JUST LOADED!!!!!!!!!!

frick that. I want to start the year #1, beat everyone's asses in between, and finish the year #1.
Would be the dream season and make my LSU football life complete.

I think everyone is missing the obvious points. All these publications know that LSU historically struggles when ranked #1 so they're voting LSU #1 now BECAUSE THEY HATE LSU!

I have a problem with being ranked #1 before spring practice is even complete. You never know how 18-22 year olds are going to respond to 5 months of hearing how they're picked as the #1 team in the nation. Reading too many press clippings about how great you're supposed to be can be a negative.
Personally, I'd rather be top 5 and take it from there.

Well, LSU finished #8 last season and is ranked in the Top 5 among BCS schools for winning percentage since 2005.
So, it's not like we are going to sneak up on anyone or not have high expectations of winning already.
Why not be ranked #1? It's something of an honor anytime no matter the ending results of a season. imo
Plus, it gives the "LSU football is in a decline" crowd something else to have to swallow.

If a team starts as # 1 or 2 then they can end as # 1 or 2 if they live up to their billing and eventually play in the NC game........
anyone that thinks LSU should start as # 10 is an idiot..........

Better to be on top and control your own destiny than pray for other teams to lose

You mad bro?
The reason why a lot of people want to be ranked a little lower is because there is not as much pressure when you are ranked 10 as there is when you are ranked 1. When a team is ranked #1, there is a HUGE target on it's back. The pressure makes it easier for a huge frick up and actually blow some things out of proportion. When you are ranked at #10, well then over the course of the season you are constantly trying to get to number 1. You actually have something to earn. It's easier to have a winning season coming from behind than it is when you're already at the top.

Being preseason # 1 is like being recruiting #1 - it does not mean jack shite.

I don't care where we start. Just have to take care of business when season starts!
