Safties
Taylor
Loston
Reid
Vinson
Corners
Claiborne
Simon
Mathieu
Brooks
I'm sure that I'm leaving some people off too. I am confident that every one of those guys will get drafted outside of Ron Brooks, and he's a solid college player.

I heard yesterday that redshirt freshman Sam Gibson is showing signs of being seriously good at safety. Stuck behind some very talented players and will see mostly special teams work but he is smart, very fast and will lay a hit on you.
Last fall the coaches worked him at several different positions including WR, S and CB. Now that he's concentrating on S his stock is rising.

I'm glad to hear that. I hope he doesn't become one of those diamond in the rough recruits who falls by the wayside, lost in a deep position.

Since we are inexperienced at LB, I would almost expect LSU to be in some form of the nickel/dime the majority of the defensive snaps. I'm ok with this bc Taylor, Reid, Loston are all excellent tacklers at the safety spots.

Simon showed late last season that he's pretty physical for a corner, too.

Our D-Line is going to be good, too!
If we can get just average play from out LBs, we'll be top 5 D in the country.

not to mention the whole new bath of Athlete's we picked up for 2011.
Ron Martin
David Jenkins
Jalen Collins
Paul Turner
Micah Eugene
Alonzo Lewis
I wouldn't be surprised if one of those guys emerged out of the pack as a play maker and rotated in. At the very least a special team BEAST or two.
I love the direction this team is heading with all this youth experience.

I agree and also think Cooper is one of the more underated coaches on the staff.

I'm glad to hear about Gibson. I know coming into LSU he was a great athlete, but he's a bigger guy than I thought he was. I'm sure were gonna hear his name mentioned on ST a lot this season

I think that Reid will be great by the time he leaves but I saw him miss several tackles last season. I also saw him make great defensive plays, but I don't think tackling is his strongest point of play...I do realize he was only a freshman

I agree. I was just saying that our Safeties are very good against the run so not having a 3rd LB on the field does not make us vulnerbale against the run.
TM, Simon, and Claiborne are all physical corners who are play the run well.

I know everybody just continually complains about LB depth/quality when the truth is that LSU's scheme rarely has 3 LBs on the field so it is not as a big of an issue.

I think it is only really an issue when we play pro style offenses with big offensive lines and backs. Think Alabama and--I'm guessing Florida now that Wies is instilling a pro style offense there (although their backs aren't very big).

Ok, but its not like Bama just rammed it down our throats or anything.

Yes. Ask Trent Richardson how he felt after getting tackled by an LSU DB at the goal line.

a lot of talent, but i think we will need more range at safety.

Well in TR's defense that wasn't just any DB

He's also widely considered the best RB in the conference coming in to next year. If you want to say that our DBs are only slightly less physical that Peterson, you can also say that we won't be facing the caliber of RB of Richardson on a weekly basis.
