Trindon Holiday returned a kickoff 98 yards against Ole Miss in 2007

I hope he doesn't turn into Matt Branch. Speaking of, why has he not broken into the 2 deep yet? Too tall? Injuries?

Matt Branch is currently wearing #79 and list on the spring roster as an OG. He played some mop up duty last year at left guard. He's listed as the backup there.

I heard yesterday that redshirt freshman Sam Gibson is showing signs of being seriously good at safety. Stuck behind some very talented players and will see mostly special teams work but he is smart, very fast and will lay a hit on you.

Last fall the coaches worked him at several different positions including WR, S and CB. Now that he's concentrating on S his stock is rising.

Just an aside-the Chad Jones/Spencer Ware football plus another sport is an aberration. I can only think of one other example, Charlie Ward. Miles is a very patient coach and is great for the LSU sports community.

Chris Jackson was on scholarsip as the kicker on the LSU football team and played third base for the baseball team from 2005-2007. Also one of the best ever two sport athletes was Deion Sanders. He was a star in both football and baseball at Florida State, as was Bo Jackson at Auburn.

I'm going DE- Montgomery and Edwards DT- Freak and Downs

Just curious...since Kendrick Adams started every game at left DE in 2010 why would you think Edwards would beat him out? Edwards became a starter on the right side after Sam Montgomery got hurt.

I would think Adams and Montomery are going to be the starting ends. Lavar Edwards, Kiki Mingo, and Chancey Aghayere will all get playing time. I also suspect the starting tackles for the first game will be Brockers and Downs but its not going to matter because Freak and Ego will get a lot of playing time. IMO the coaches will rotate the DL in and out a lot trying to keep fresh people in the game.

Tommy Hodson was a redshirt freshman, not a true freshman, when he started his first game at LSU.
Here is a link for individual and team statistic and rank in every category.

LINK
Just to show that you can find a stat for any occassion think about this....

LSU was 26th out of 120 teams on defense. That means 21% of D-I teams were better than LSU on Defense. On offense LSU was 112th out of 120 teams, meaning 93% of teams in D-I were better than LSU on offense. Better yet, LSU was 11th in scoring defense. Only 9% of teanms were better. Scoring offense was 76th. Yep, it was the defense's fault alright.
LSU was 109th in time of possession with an average of 27.50 minutes. The defense was on the field for 32.50 minutes. Thats 11 spots from dead last. On the other hand the team that won the BCS championship averaged 33.31 minutes on offense which was 5th in the nation.

The NCAA is not known for using commin sense in seeding teams in regionals.

You realize that when you say the NCAA you're talking about a committee made up of representatives of member schools, right? No NCAA employees are involved in selection or seeding.

The make up of the committee changes annually so there is naturally inconsistancy in the results. There are guide lines but every person brings their own ideas as to what should happen. I seem to recall Skip Bertman serving on the baseball selection committee a few years back.
Just Curious....

When was the last time any team from the ACC went out of conference and beat a team with a winning record from another BCS conference?

The last three times LSU played an ACC opponent:

LSU 40 - Miami 3 (#9 at the time)
LSU 48 - VaTech 7 (#4 at the time)
LSU 38 - GaTech 3 (#12 at the time)

North Carolina may be the best team in the ACC but until that league can prove it can win big games against other BCS conference schools I'm not a believer.

The two teams that played for the ACC championship and an automatic BCS bid lost on the last weekend of the regular season last year. Clemson lost to South Carolina and Georgia Tech lost to Georgia....teams LSU finished ahead of in the SEC.

Assuming Wilkerson has been involved, I expect our o-line will be better coached in 2010. that could make a difference, especially if some of our RBs step up (still to be seen IMO). If we get some traction in our running game to take some pressure off JJ, he might improve some in 2010 (I won't write off the season based on the spring game).

Assuming a graduate assitant who has never coached a down of college football is going to make a difference is an enormous leap of faith. The job of a grad assistant is usually to be a gopher and LEARN how to coach. If you think he's going to overide Stud on who plays or install technique not coached by Stud, you're dreaming.

I will give you that he may be able to help instill some intensity which, in and of itself, would be a big help.

Simon(I think Cooper and Chavis will try him here 1st)

Billy Gonzales will try him at WR first. On the LSU.net website the recruits coming in August are are listed at the bottom of the spring roster. He's listed as a WR.
The reason it came up is because a person I know was bragging he paid the camp fee for a player to attend a camp at an SEC school. He happens to be an alumnus of that school. (its not LSU and the sport wasn't football)

Alonzo Lawrence. 4 star DB, #2 in the nation at his position behind Patrick Peterson and #35 on Rival's top 100. Signed with bama in 2008. Cut from the team last spring.
