I have had my fill of Trent Johnson. I have been following LSU basketball since 1985, and this is the worst team I have ever witnessed play. I put the blame squarely on the shoulders of Johnson. I witnessed the Vandy game in the PMAC. What a joke! The man does NOT coach his players. He sits there and allows the train wreck to happen without making any effort to coach the players out of the bad situation. His use of timeout management is full of errors. The man gets paid to coach, yet he just sits there. As a fan and diehard supporter of LSU basketball, I am appalled by the lack.of effectiveness that this coach brings to his players. He has not had any real success since he arrived in Red Stick, and it is time to pack his bags and send him on his way back to the west coast. We had no problem packing John Brady's bags for him when he had a horrible year when his players were plagued with injuries. This, of course, happening the year after he led them to the Final Four!

So who should be the next hire? Bruce Pearl. He wins. He built a successful program at Tennessee. He recruits well. He coaches with passion. He will build a solid program at LSU. I have looked at the NCAA violation in regards to the Barbeque. Not legal, but hey, we are talking chicken and ribs, and not houses and sports cars! His main vilolation was lying to the NCAA about it. Tennessee AD has had a history of running coaches out if town, such as Fulmer and Pearl. Who is next? Pat Summit??? My vote is for us to rebuild LSU basketball now and hire Bruce Pearl.

Yeah, Pearl wins because he cheats. UT statement said he committed another violation within the last month. No thanks.

Yeah let's hire a coach who got fired from another program for cheating & then trying to get his players and familys to lie and cover it up

LSU has a coach for another year no matter who has had their "fill of Trent Johnson" and who hasn't.

I would suggest we support the guy we have and hold our water till we see what happens next year, but each to our own.

No. We can do better than Bruce Pearl. With all these NCAA violations, I'd have to go with someone else.

Pearl? Hell no. I'd MUCH rather keep Johnson than touch Pearl with a 10' pole.

"Other than that, Mrs. Lincoln, how was the play?"

Lying to the NCAA is basically the worst thing a coach can do in terms of violations. It is a direct line to the dreaded LOIC finding, and it can turn any violation (no matter how minor) into devastating sanctions. And the problem with that is that it impacts other sports. If that clown lands us on serious probation, any little misstep by the football program might be treated as a repeat offense and result in more serious sanctions for the football team. We don't need any more "draconian sanctions" for the basketball program, and we damn sure don't need them for football.

Pearl seems like a good coach, but has proven to have astonishingly stupid judgment. I just can't trust a coach stupid enough to lie to the NCAA about a relatively innocuous BBQ to direct one of our major sports programs. Maybe he's learned better or maybe it was just a one time lapse of wisdom; but maybe it wasn't. I for one have zero interest in testing either theory.

Btw, is Dale busy these days . . . ?

I would offer my left arm to get this guy at LSU.

It would be better for him to end up at an SEC East school.. . .that way UTk plays them twice a year as a constant reminder of their stupidity.

So winning the Western division your first season and giving the eventual national champion Tar Heels one of their toughest matches in the NCAA tourney is not considered a success???

We probably would have won the whole thing that year with a better coach. And it's not like all those players came to LSU just because of Brady.

Yeah, and look where that got him.

I don't understand why someone would want to go after a walking violation.

Look at where that got Indiana.

I would rather have a "cheating" program that WINS rather than an "honest" program that LOSES.

Can't disagree there.

He won the SEC in 08-09. Not just the West, the whole damn thing. If you're going to criticize (which is warranted), at least give credit when it's due.

It was two seasons after the Final Four appearance

Yes he was sucessful at Tenn. Yes he built a solid program. Yes he brought excitement to the program. He also committed major NCAA infractions. Whether you personally feel they were minor in nature, the fact is that he broke rules. He was suspended by the conference for half of the SEC season! When has that ever happend? Obviously the comissioner felt the violations were serious.

Your bio says that you are a teacher and coach. As a coach, are you openly advocating violating rules as long as they are "minor" infractions? Would you lie to your superior with the justification that "it's just small violations, no one was hurt and we can keep winning?" What kind of example does that set?

Ultimately LSU may need a new basketball coach. If TJ doesn't improve the program next year, then I'll be on the bandwagon with those wanting a new coach. However, hiring Bruce Pearl would open up the ENTIRE athletic program to intense scrutiny. LSU doesn't need to reduce itself to that level.

I'd trade in a heartbeat. If the gears aren't spinning in our AD's brain, already, they need to start.

Pearl is EXACTLY what LSU needs. Excitement.

Having said that, no chance in hell we do anything that creative.
