re: If LSU gets a NIT home game,

When will they announce the NIT field and bracket?
Salamander, if they were so good as you make them out to be, they would be dominant NBA players, which those three are not. They are NBA nobody's, and two of the three should have stayed one more year to get more experience and build more skill. They left for big money, and they are flopping like fish out of water.
Antonio Blakeney is an excellent player. I hope he stays. Simmons has to go. I would take Blakeney over Simmons any day of the week. I would also take Oklahoma's Buddy Hield over Simmons. Simmons is an individual stat padder, not a team player. He has to go. Too much hype, not enough talent.
Johnny O'Bryant averages 2.9 PPG and 1.9 rebounds per game. Not much of an NBA player. Jarell Martin averages 2.7 PPG. Not much of an NBA player. Jordan Mickey averages 1.4 PPG. Not much of an NBA player. Simmons and Blakeney are not NBA players yet. So only 3 of 5 are actual NBA players, and so far, they are all NBA flops. Your argument from this standpoint is a flop as well.
Help me here. Who are those 5 NBA players?
I totally disagree. Simmons needs to go. When he does, LSU gets to become a much better team.
Is Johnny Jones a great coach? No. Is Johnny Jones the best coach that we have had since Dale Brown? That iShard to justify since John Brady led the Tigers to the Final Four. Do I think he has the potential to be the best since Dale Brown? Absolutely. Is Johnny Jones the worst coach in LSU history? Absolutely NOT! It takes time to build a program. Jones has it moving in the right direction. You don't want "microwave" success. You want success that builds and develops over time to have real strength, like Duke, Michigan State, and North Carolina. Give the man a chance to build success.
I totally disagree. Again, best 1st 4-year record of any coach in LSU Basketball history. That is a league including Calipari's Cats and Donovan's Gators. There is a lot of work to do, I agree with that. But Johnny Jones is the man for the job just like Les Miles is the man for the football job.
I disagree. Simmons was too big of a distraction for the team concept and its success. Simmons is young, and he could not handle the pressure and expectations of a leadership role. It was evident in his game play, in his interviews, and in his academic standing. Mark this down in granite.....LSU will be better next year with Simmons gone. Losing Hornsby will hurt a lot worse than losing Simmons. Nonetheless, LSU will have a 20+ win season next year.
Johnny Jones has the best 1st 4-year record of any coach in LSU Basketball history, and Tiger "fans" want him fired. What a joke! I was screaming for Trent Johnson's dismissal, and I got thoroughly criticized on here for that. Now, the genius LSU fan base want Jones fired with the success he has had rebuilding a defunct program. Pathetic! Too many high expectations. Ben Simmons is an individual performing player. He is not a team player. I want him to go to the NBA immediately so he can get away from LSU as fast as possible. There has been no attention to the LSU team, only to Ben Simmons. Simmons is way overrated, and it shows in his performances as of late. Keith Hornsby is the heart of this team. Antonio Blakeney is a much better player than Simmons. Simmons is no Chris Jackson. Simmons is no Shaquille O'Neal. Simmons is a flop in LSU Basketball history. Johnny Jones and the Tigers will be better next year because they will play more team oriented basketball without all the focus and attention on one mediocre team player and excellent individual stat player. Johnny Jones deserves a raise and a contract extension. He is far better than Trent Johnson. He is more dedicated than Trent Johnson ever was to LSU. I am proud to be a true LSU Basketball fan, and I still believe in this team and Coach Jones.
Graychef, what is your assessment of LSU Basketball, recent past and present? Johnson vs. Jones?
The Rudy Macklin era. The Ricky Blanton / Vernel Singleton / Wayne Sims era. And yes, even the Chris Jackson years had high levels of success except in tournament play. I think we all, as Tiger fans, want to see the high level of play that these eras provided.
I totally agree. This is an awesome idea!! Fans would definitely have a goal to shoot for, and it would help be disruptive to opposing defenses.
Mr. Carey, I totally agree! I love watching these guys. Jones actually coaches from the sidelines and doesn't sit on his butt like Johnson. These Tigers are going to continue to get better.

Did you really read the entire post, gaychef? Really? lol

As I have mentioned on previous occasions, I have been an LSU Basketball fan since the mid-1980’s. I have seen the glory days and those games that one could only shake their head in disgust. The Trent Johnson era was marred with head-shaking games. Many fans voiced their disapproval of my criticism of Trent Johnson’s job performance. Now, we are in the Johnny Jones era. The Tigers are 0-2 in SEC play, and many are anticipating my harsh criticism of these Tigers. These many people are quite wrong. When comparing these two coaches and their respective teams, it is comparing apples to oranges. The Trent Johnson-coached Tigers never saw any enthusiasm from their coach. Their offensive schemes were more of a one-on-one offensive street play. Defensively, they were flat-footed, slow, and unresponsive to dribble penetration. It was a total embarrassment to watch, in person or on TV.
Now, the Johnny Jones era is a tale of a different team. This coach, who knows the history of the program as he has been a part of the program’s history unlike Johnson, is working hard to restore the pride and passion of LSU Basketball. He has a clear goal of team and program success and wants to bring back the “Deaf Dome” to the Maravich Center. These Tigers are feisty defensively, with a press that caused much confusion to the #11 Florida Gators in the second half of Saturday’s game. Many people believe that a press is unsuccessful if it doesn’t result in a turnover. This is simply not true. If a press disrupts the offensive flow of an opponent, then it has been successful. A turnover is just some extra. While their press did result in some Gator layups due to break downs, it was better defense than has been seen in the previous years with Trent Johnson. Offensively, they are running plays with screen, cuts, and dribble penetration to the glass.
I am fully supportive of Johnny Jones and the job he and his staff are doing. The golden years are coming back. The Deaf Dome is coming back! Finally, we have a coach that loves LSU and is dedicated to its long-term success. Thumbs up, Coach Jones! Thumbs up!

TJ could not get a maggot excited about a garbage dump, and I think that spilled over to his team's play and his recruiting.

It was very apparent in his coaching style and his team's performance. TJ was a waste of space.
[quote]Jones elected to take the LSU job because he loves the place. I'll take that over a mercenary any day.[/quot

No doubt about it! His connection to his LSU family will make him pour his heart into a job at a place he loves. It is personal for him. I love it!

I was one of the fans that wanted Dixon, Smart, Pastner, etc.. and was saying lets throw 2.2 mil a year and get one of these guys. Maybe we couldve got one of those guys but they wouldve been here for financial reasons. Jones is at LSU because he wants to be, he is a true Tiger and if you couldnt see that from his genuine enthusiam on that podium youre blind. Im stoked about the future of the basketball program and I have no doubt Coach Jones will do everything in his power to turn this program around and get it back to what it should be.

I totally agree. I feel the same exact way. Jones will pour his soul into this program.

LSU basketball is in GREAT shape.

Have you been living under a rock??? LSU Basketball HAS been a complete train wreck since Trent Johnson was coach. Johnny Jones is THE man for the job to unravel the mess left behind.

Great results will soon follow.

I totally agree! "Bullet" will get the job done right!
