Typically, this game has fallen in October. I agree the atmosphere in BDS would be off the charts if they would pick it up. Otherwise it'll be another afternoon classic like the last four.

so i'm the only one who recalls the mega-deal between SEC and ESPN meaning within a year or two ESPN would take to covering all games and the CBS games would be phased out?

I never heard that cbs lost their game of the week in the deal.

would rather play UF here at night

This is the game that will happen. Unless FLA sucks by that time. Which is likely.

CBS will let the conference know what games they want for the day-night double header, and then the early afternoon-afternoon game at the SEC Spring Meetings in Destin in May I believe.

yeah, guess i was wrong:

LINK

"ESPN will have rights to every SEC home football game not on the network package and all league matchups will be shown on some outlet, including at least 20 a year on ESPN or ESPN2. That includes two primetime Thursday night matchups and Saturday night games."

where "network package" looks to refer to the standing CBS thing.

CBS has priority over ESPN. The old deal let ESPN have first pick a couple or three times a season, but the contract signed in 2008 did away with that. CBS will always be touted as the "SEC Game of The Week".

CBS deal

i agree that TS might be a little more electric on a big time night game

Huh! A little more? Jimi how many games have you seen? Are you a youngster? The players WITHOUT QUESTION feed off the crowd energy at night games; maybe not as much the older days but anyone who doesn't feel this is not conscious! Maybe doesn't always work in our favor against a superior team but the stats bear this out and I think balance out the weak teams you mentioned (Fla. 07, Au 07, WVU 10, just to name 3)!

i think the '03 home game against UGA pretty much shattered the night game theory, both for fans and players.

I've attended plenty of TS night games against tiny schools that had a pathetic atmosphere.

Hey Jimi, yeah I have been for 50 SEASONS so yes you are a youngster , but listen to me! The players NO DOUBT feed off the crowd at night especially big games (VT 07) and lot of times can elevate their adrenaline or whatever and provide some intangables that boost their play; doesn't work all the time against a superior team(witness Bama 02, I think) but I've seen this occur MANY times! That is why oddsmakers would give us -4 to -7 point spread @ home at night!

When it comes to the time slot of conference games, Saban's power plays no role. The league and its members have contractually agreed to play them at whatever time the networks say they will play, in accordance with the process established.

That includes one Saturday prime time game during the season and the Friday afternoon game on Thanksgiving weekend, both of which are selected well ahead of the season. CBS has already selected LSU-Arkansas for the Friday game.

Schoos do negotiate their own schedules in terms of what week games are played, and it's up to each school to determine who has the authority to schedule their games (including which out of conference teams they will play).

But no reason to belittle me by calling me a youngster because i dont agree with you.

Not in the least belittle you just said you much younger then me, thats all I agree that if we want to become/stay elite team we (fans and players) must get over this nightime stigma, that is all I imply!

It's not just LSU, it's everywhere I've been ... crowds are more amped up at night. Fortunately, we have been branded "Night game U" which is certainly a good thing for us in terms of PR, culture, tradition, etc.

Yes, the bulk of our better record at night is due to playing easier teams at night over the years, but there is something to playing at night ... the homefield advantage is intensified, and it's not just at LSU. Many, many stadiums are more electric/intimidating at night.

CBS will retain rights to Saturday games as I understand it and even so we're talking about this coming season only.
