So, I'm flipping channels and I come across VH1's countdown of the 100 greatest hard rock songs in history.

And the winner is "Welcome to the Jungle" by Guns and Roses ???

Really?

This song is ranked ahead of every song by ..Zepplin,Sabbath/Ozzy,Who,Van Halen,Boston,Deep Purple,Metallica..ETC ?

I mean, I like GnR and I like this song.

But, I can think of half a dozen songs by Zepplin alone that are better.

This was their top 20.

They lose credibility immediately with Bon Jovi Being in the top 20.
20 Bon Jovi – “You Give Love A Bad Name”
19 Rush – “Tom Sawyer”
18 Scorpions – “Rock You Like A Hurricane”
17 Twisted Sister – “I Wanna Rock”
16 Kiss – “Rock And Roll All Nite”
15 Motley Crue – “Dr. Feelgood”
14 Iron Maiden – “Run To The Hills”
13 Def Leppard – “Photograph”
12 Judas Priest – “Breaking The Law”
11 Deep Purple – “Smoke On The Water”
10 Motorhead – “Ace Of Spades”
09 Van Halen – “Runnin With The Devil”
08 Aerosmith – “Walk This Way”
07 Nirvana – “Smells Like Teen Spirit”
06 The Who – “Won’t Get Fooled Again”
05 Metallica – “Enter Sandman”
04 Black Sabbath – “Paranoid”
03 Led Zeppelin – “Whole Lotta Love”
02 AC/DC – “Back In Black”
01 Guns N’ Roses – “Welcome To The Jungle”

can never take these kind of list as total fact. I like the list but this is a list that will never have an answer that everyone can all agree on. GNR is a bit harder than Zeplin, but Zepplin is a better band. Weird how that works.

I never do. The only thing I can see is they must have polled a much younger group of people.

Yeah, GnR and Nirvana were gerat in their own rights but top 10 all time? Gimme a break.

Too many hair bands in that list for me to take it serious. Also, I've never considered Nirvana "hard rock."

I can't believe people are upset about Bon Jovi in the top 20 but seem perfectly fine with Rush in there. Rush isn't exactly "hard rock", whatever that is. They're far more proggy than hard. Why not just put Yes in the top 20?

It's a fine list. They are missing some songs I'd put in there (Mississippi Queen, anyone?), but there's nothing TOO outrageous. Though AC/DC should clearly be #1.

I guess it depends on the criteria, but Welcome to the Jungle is an iconic song. Is there a hard rock song that has been more played to main stream audiences?

meh, I hate GOAT lists.

trying to get 2 people to agree to a list is a chore, much less trying to pass off some list as fact on VH1.

Hell, my list of favorite artists fluctuates all the time.

That Bon Jovi made the list, and there isn't a sighting of Thin Lizzy..says it all.
