I think Miles meant that people shouldn't freak out due to an occasional 8-win season.

I understand that, but we shouldn't put anything in contract form stating that shite

That's exactly the way I interpret it. I don't think he means he should be entitled to "cruise" with an 8 win average. This board never ceases to amaze me.

Agreed.

You must be an idiot if you think he stands for mediocrity. Do you really not think he wants 10+ win seasons every year just like the rest of us? I'm sorry but 8 and 9 win seasons are going to happen sometimes. That's reality folks.

That's what he may have meant. But this really is essentially a mediocrity clause in the contract. I don't care if you're writing a contract for Miles or for a janitor, I am fundamentally opposed to that kind of entitlement mentality.

Agreed. Hopefully all these haters will work for bosses that are as demanding and as critical as they are.

i don't think 1 8 win season out of 6 is all that bad. i think 4 11 win seasons out of 6 seasons is pretty fricking great. have i accepted mediocrity?

Of course that's what he meant. However, unlike fans at Alabama, Florida, Auburn, Southern Cal, Oklahoma, Ohio State, and every other elite program, fans at LSU fail to understand that 8 and 9 win seasons are going to happen from time to time. A string of 3 or 4 such seasons in a row should be cause for concern. Not 1 or 2.

Well if you are a reasonable person one might think that.

Exactly...especially from the administration.

Anyone with a brain should know that Miles is striving for better than 8 wins.

I think 8 years of really good football have spoiled the bunch. I read that statement to mean that he wants to be here long term and wants some job security. I think they need to negotiate getting Crowton out as part of that job security though.

This.

At some point, every D1 school has to start a new QB with minimal experience. "Rookie" QBs, no matter how gifted and promising, do some stupid things from time to time during the "game seasoning" process. Sometimes close, hard fought games don't go your way, sometimes you get snakebit with the injury bug.

Miles above all knows mediocrity on an ongoing basis is unacceptable and I don't believe that's what he's asking for. After all, who wanted Saban's head after that embarrassing debacle in the Cap One bowl and an overall mediocre year? It happens from time to time.

I think Miles wants excellence year in and year out, not mediocrity. But he wants the support of LSU's administration if he keeps delivering more often than not.

I just don't think he's as cold-blooded as some coaches are. I think he wants loyalty to mean something both ways. We'll see probably here today whether the marriage continues or a new one ensues with his original "first love". (Sometimes, you really can't "go home again". Who but Miles, his family and his agent knows at the moment, eh?)

Good luck getting the Sabanistas here to realize that.
