quote:Alot of speculation. Since TCU is a private school, not many actually know what Patterson makes. The Dallas News reported this: LINK
something low like $1.6M but supposedly hes in bed with some boosters and has some stock where hes making a pretty penny "away" from football. so says a couple know-it-alls on this board
quote:I'd guess with bonuses would probably put it close to $3M+. Part of the reason he likes TCU is because it's his wife's hometown and she likes it there. That goes a long way. Also, TCU isn't afraid of investing big $$ into the football program. Their football budget was only behind Texas out of all the Big 12 teams last year, and TCU is building a new stadium. If he really entertained leaving, I'm sure TCU would put up whatever was required to ensure him staying...if it only came down to money.
The exact terms of his new contract, which extends his current deal by two years to 2016, were not disclosed, but sources close to the TCU administration say the new deal is guaranteed and puts his salary in the range of $2.5 million annually, up from $1.8 million per year. Also, TCU retained no buyout clause, so Patterson could take another job without a penalty.

Everything I have read points to arrogance and stubbornness as the best way to describe Michigan
it's their niche b/c they can't compete with OSU on the football field (traditionally)
so, they have developed this, "we're better than you anyway" aura
that ties in with the whole "michigan man" thing. upstanding character as a coach. pushing academics. don't bend the rules. positive style. etc etc etc
that way their coach fits in with the, "well you may have the better team, but we do it the RIGHT way"

well you have to b/c i'm 100% right. it's not a hidden fact
rich rod was an attempt to get a leg up and "sell out"
that backfired on and off the field, so you better believe they're going after a "michigan man" this time
and "michigan man" is kind of a misnomer. it's more of a "coached by, and with bo" man

Something I think you guys dont understand about Michigan culture
Our University has been well known for not paying top dollar for coaches.
No, just your basketball players.
quote:
Part of that is due to the fact Michigan has a "thing" about wanting to be known for academics rather than athletics.
That's what all the losers say. In every bowl LSU has won I recall the opponent's fans making comments to this effect.

didnt UM have a bunch of thugs on the BB ball team, especially during the Webber days?
they may have been paid, but they weren't thugs
webber, howard, and rose are all decent guys at worst. they're all intelligent, articulate, etc. far from thugs

and what if Miles says no? Other than Miles and Harbaugh, who are the "coached by, and with bo" candidates?
If Michigan only wants a Michigan man and strikes out with both, then they're going to be up a creek without a paddle.

Are you talking about recently, because Michigan still owns the all-time series.
That is all they can say about OSU though.

you missed the point i was trying to make
the "coached by bo" guys are a finite number who are all aging/dying or have jobs
UM is going to have to look to non-bo candidates, but i bet you they're going to look for guys who fit the same character profile

what about since the 70s or so?
UM has a gaudy record, but they were playing football with the 4-5 other programs early on and racked up a bunch of success in the ancient days

Well since the 70s, it has been about even with OSU having a 20-19-2 mark (from 1970 to 2010).
So unless Michigan turns itself around OSU will eventually say that they will own the series.

Would that make you feel better if LSU lost to Bama the next 5 games in a row? Bad comparison Bama already owns the all time series but you get my point. It's a what have you done for me lately world we live in. Past success doesn't take away present failures.

Something you dont undertand about the LSU culture is the fact that we dont give a shite about the MIchigan culture.

I stopped reading right there because how much did UM pay for rich rod??????? and before that the last time UM hired a coach was 95. THE GAME CHANGED FOR COACHES WHEN LSU GAVE SABAN 1.25 MILLION IN 99.

I remember an interview somewhere Miles gave, about talking to Bo about LSU, calling his mentor before taking the job. Bo told him it would be chance to make his mark, do his own thing, build something of his own. I think that matters to Miles.
If he leaves it won't be for money. It'll be to leave a new home and go back to an old one. Can't ever fault a man for that.
