Marco Materazzi, Adrian Mutu, Patrick Vieira, Nicolas Anelka, Roberto Carlos, Guillermo Franco, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, and Nicolas Sahnoun.

Seems like the MLS really is becoming the retirement league for foreign players. I guess it's good for the league though

It improves the product on the field a bit, which is improved more by the development of young players. Tt also gives the league more notoriety elsewhere as these players could go anywhere to play there remaining years.

I wouldn't call it a retirement league, because these players represent a very small minority of the players in the league.

You can add John Aarne Riise to those players saying they go MLS in a few years. Seems every day another player says this though.

I tend to look at it as a compliment for MLS growing a bit in respect even if every single one of these players is probably mainly thinking they'd like to live in New York or Los Angeles.

Adu to Philly. Guess that depends on allocation however.

I want the MLS to continue to improve the quality of its play, but I don't think the "retirement league" method is necessarily a negative.

These players bring some recognition and (hopefully) money to the league. It's up to the teams to continue to spend that money on their development academies and reserve leagues to bring the level of the league up.

I do wonder how it works in a clubhouse when 6-8 guys are making $40k and 2 or 3 guys are making millions.

I'd love to see Adu in Philly as I'm a supporter, but it seems like he's oversees until he can find no further port to land in. I think it would do him some good and might be his best shot at the national team again.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but this isn't happening to the same degree after the new collective bargaining agreement. I mean the league minimum isn't great, but it's not as bad as it once was.

Damn I was under the impression the league minimum had gone up before the threatened strike.

I didn't realize Henry and Marquez made that kind of scratch from the Red Bulls...

I'm amazed at the amount of European soccer players that vacation in Miami. I go every summer, and I've always seen at least one. Paolo Maldini and Alessandro Nesta go for just about every holiday

Maybe he can find a new hobby when he joins the Northern Kentucky expansion team.

There are so many Europeans in Miami that most of the nice restaurants in South Beach add an automatic 15% gratuity to the bills so they don't get stiffed by Europeans.

How many of these guys have signed? Just because they want to play here doesn't mean they're good enough to.

They're world class players and get paid like it.

These guys close to retirement are still better than most of what MLS puts out there, so it can only help the league in my opinion.

MLS can build on aging foreign stars and young homegrown talent. I'm way cool with that.

If they can build attendance by bringing in big names, even if they might be past their prime, hopefully they can manage bigger payrolls to actually keep most of the young talent in the MLS

I’m surprised Henry gets paid that much. Marquez is still very good and is worth every penny of what he gets paid. Not saying Henry isn’t very good. I just fell that Henry is closer to retirement than Marquez.
