I've been a huge LSU basketball fan my whole life, always looking forward to the season starting and for the most part proud of the product over the last 35 yrs,,,,, I have my opinion of how we got to this point but would like to hear other opinions.

I would say that our program has mostly been like this my entire life. We've had some stretches of a few good years here and there but historically we suck in general.

I agree that LSU basketball just isn't as exciting as it's been in the past. I don't think it's as much to do with LSU though as the product of college basketball as a whole being watered down. The forcing of kids to play 1 year of ball at the collegiate level has hurt the game in my opinion. Either that or as I've gotten older I've realized how meaningless the regular season and even conference tournaments are and can't get excited enough to watch religiously.

That's insane. We made the NCAA tournament ever year from 1984 through 1993,and made the NCAA or NIT from 1979 through '93.

4 Final Fours, 10 SEC titles and 3 players on the NBA's 50th Anniversary All-Time team don't come from teams that "suck in general".

Brady...

Look in the mirror.
Brady took LSU basketball from the gutter to as high as anyone in my lifetime. No one wanted the job with the contraints a new coach would have to work under. That is the reason Brady was hired. Even the Ole Miss Coach said NO!
Hopefully TJ can get it done.

No, Brady didn't recruit anyone. Look back at his last few classes.

That was the only successful period of the program.

There have been a ton of lean years since with some good years in-between.

College basketball has been ruined by the NBA. It started going down when Kevin Garnett and Kobe skipped college. The entire talent pool is watered down and there are too many college basketball programs.

Also, the athlete of today is typically a frontrunner. He likes to play on a winning team so all of the talent seems to assemble at the top programs.

You can't be serious. He had a top 5 class on it's way the year after he was canned. They all decommitted and went to Oklahoma and ucla. One thing you can't deny about Brady was his ability to recruit. Although pg didn't work out too well.

in the 70s and early 80s we rode the tidal wave of the rise of basketball popularity nationally, and Dale brought enthusiasm and a newness to the game that fed off the residual popularity of the superstar of my time, Pistol.

We got better each year until our first final 4.

Then we had the most incredible talent level w/ Stanley, Shaq, Chris, Blanton, etc. and when it didn't happen for us and they moved on, it was like all the air went out of the program. There was a chance for big time revival w/ Livingston and the guard from Jackson (sorry, senior moment) but Randy got hurt and Dale didn't have a backup plan and the program deteriorated.

Dale had enormous pressure to sign Lester Earl and that came back to bite the program big time. since then we've had some really good teams, but we have not had the consistency that would prop up basketball in a football town. The enthusiasm of the 70s through early 90s is gone. And i truly believe that basketball is simply not as popular as it once was nationally, and moreso here.

I like this coach and i like this team. But LSU basketball has only thrived w/ big name players winning consistently. i don't see it changing absent 3-4 years of consistent 20 win seasons and some noise in the dance.

BTW: i gave up my season tickets 2 years ago after having them since i graduated from law school in 79. When i first came to LSU in 70, i much preferred basketball to football, but that changed many years ago.

Getting players may have not been the problem, but I do not remember us ever having a deep team under him.

Every year, it seems as if there is no more than 11 or so scholarship players on the team.
