Assassination of Jesse James by The Coward Robert Ford

This has been one of the most underrated films of the past 5 years. It actually lost money but I think it was due to the way it was released...about two years after filming was completed.
I thought the performances by Brad Pitt and Casey Affleck were phenomenal to say the least. Cinematography was praised and nominated for many awards...which I thought was spectacular (half the time it was like you were looking at an old photograph through a glass prism).
Without a doubt it is one of the best ten movies I've ever seen but it's more of a genre flick. You can't do much to distort history but I thought it was one of the best case studies of two characters we've witnessed on screen in years.
Very disappointed it wasn't bigger but still a masterpiece in my opinion.

I liked it but it should have been cut by at least half an hour

More like one of the most overrated. Reduced the story to some latent unrequited bromance between James and Ford. Terrible narration and terrible action scenes.

Affleck yes
Pitt not so much

I agree with pretty much everything you said outside of it not being one of my top ten movies of all time. It was top ten on my 2000's list though.
Most people around here like it.
I actually saw it in the theatres the night it opened, it was only at the theatre for three days where i'm at, and I might have been the only person that went the entire weekend

Did y'all see the Yogi Bear alternate ending spoof of Assassination of Jesse James on WWTDD the other day, good stuff.

ETA: shite, just noticed it had it's own thread.

This movie is overrated if anything. I was bored to tears.

OK. This thread kinda redeems you after the 30 Rock thread.

It gets its due on this board. You can tell by the replies in this thread that it is an extremely polarizing fim. People really liked it or really disliked it. I sort of see it both ways. It was boring at times, but in a cool and fullfilling way.

First time I saw it I rented it
I immediately went to walmart and bought it
One of the few movies I have actually purchased. Absolutely love it

Seems to be a divisive film, but I'm going with the underrated/best of the decade crowd.
It's a great film.

You know, I usually can account for differing tastes. It's all pretty subjective. But to those who simply say they were bored, I suggest just watching a DVD of Silverado or Young Guns and leave this film to the grownups who appreciate character, narrative, solid performances and cinematography.

IMO history can be manipulated. In you guys opinion, how much do you believe this is how it really happened.

Loved both Assassination of Jesse James by The Coward Robert Ford and There Will Be Blood.
But I can understand how others might not.
It's all subjective and a matter of personal taste.
