They could easily send you a picture of the Superdome right after Katrina. Just sayin.

The Superdome actually faired pretty well under much worse conditions--it saved lives. The Metrodome failure at least initially looks like it might be an engineering flaw in the snow load calculations.

I'm a layman when it comes to engineering, but plastic, teflon or whatever it is sounds like a bad fricking idea in heavy snow.

yeah at least the dome is solid. Took a hurricane and still stood..after watching that, i'd be paranoid if our roof was some sort of fabric or etc.

In all seriousness, it's extremely fortunate this didn't happen with people in it. People would have gotten trampled in the panic to get out of the building. There was reportedly 17 inches of snowfall--I can't believe they didn't build it to withstand more. Still, we won't know fully just what happened until an investigation is complete, but needless to say it's been a suck year for their fans.

My wife asked me why the frick (direct quote) would you use an air supported roof in that environment. I tried to explain the whole cost issue, and the fact that there had not been a problem for over 20 years, but she was not buying what I was selling (story of my fricking life).

That's the strange thing...was this like a 100 year storm or something? Seems like something else may have been going on.

Now, if Favre winds up starting tonight...well...I'm not saying, I'm just saying

You mean of course, except for the 4 previous times this same roof has collapsed, right.

Well, there haven't been problems in the last 20 years. All of the problems happened in the 1980's ('81, '82, '83 &'86)

There was a guy on cart there on the sidline area before the roof comes down.

Go back & look at the clip again. The guy is on a cart & hauls arse right before the snow comes crashing in.

I saw that this afternoon. Really wish someone would interview that guy; I would love to know what was going through his mind.

Anybody else find it odd that they had like 15 camera angles of this when it happened at 5am?

I think Cowherd said this morning that a Fox producer wanted to have cameras rolling early because he remembered heavy snow had collapsed the roof a couple times in the early 80s and wanted to capture it in case it happened again.

Do you know how the MetroDome's roof stays up to begin with????? Air pressure, just like a tire. It was just more pressure pushing down than pushing up. The Detroit "dome" is the same thing. They aren't really domes. Neither is the Atlanta dome. It's a suspension tent. So, it's a miracle these haven't collapsed more.
