The first proposal calls for 32 NCAA Regional sites that include a three-game series between two teams to begin the postseason. The winners of the best-of-three series would move on to play in eight four-team NCAA Super Regionals, with the winner advancing to the College World Series.
THE FIRST ONE WOULD BE A JOKE, THE SUPER REGIONAL WOULD BE REALLY DIFFICULT AND MORE TAXING ON PITCHING BUT IT WOULD ALLOW FOR MORE REGIONAL SITES

or
The other proposal, which was favored by every coach we talked to, calls for the NCAA postseason before the CWS to be played in a best-of-three series format, beginning with 64 teams in opening round action, 32 teams in the second series and 16 teams in the third round of series. The final eight teams, of course, would advance to the CWS. This format would add an extra week to the postseason schedule.

That sounds like a terrible format honestly.
ETA: The second proposal sounds better.

I'm all for the 2nd option, the 1st isn't very enticing.

did they cite a reason to change it? I think it's perfect how it is.

The NCAA discovered that there is more money to be made for them from an extended baseball tournamat format.
And if you believe that this isn't about bucks for the NCAA you are really innocent.

At this point, its desperately needed.
The downside is you could have more underdog teams getting through to Omaha. Only need 2 great starters to advance.

I hope they don't change anything. It's my favorite postseason, pro or college.

o be played in a best-of-three series format,
so you'd only play 1 team each round?

Would they please stop fricking with college baseball!

I can understand why coaches would prefer the second option. Its easier to set your pitching rotation for a three game series than a round robin that may force you into the loser's bracket.

That sounds terrible! Round-robin regional is the best!
