Re: Mett - Kids change more in college than any other time

Agree or disagree?
I completely changed, for the better, in college. I started college partying, not going to class, and being stupid. I was totally self-focused and even kind of cruel to people in relationships. I just didn't care. I somehow maintained a 3.0 to keep my scholarship (barely), but it was close.
Half way through my sophomore year, I had an awakening, gave my life to Christ, quit doing a lot of the stupid stuff I was doing, got up off the couch and went to class. I pulled my grades up, got serious about school, started caring about other people, and worked hard on trying to be a decent person, recognizing what a jerk I had been.
I've made lots of mistakes since then, no doubt, but my whole point is that I was a totally different person from my Freshman to my Junior year of college. The same thing happened to a lot of friends of mine as well. It's called growing up.
I hate that Mettenberger did what he did. But, anyone who is not willing to give the kid a second chance and is going to hold it against him, especially if he is showing signs of change, has never gone through any kind of change or awakening themselves. I need God's grace everyday, but I do know that change is possible.
Probably most people on this board if they have finished school, can recognize that they changed during college and learned some hard lessons about life that hopefully made them a better person.
People need to give the kid a break.

Who gives a shite as long as he throws for 275 and two or three TD's a game.

Yeah, right. Um, all the people talking about it constantly, that's who.
Have you not been paying attention?
And, character is a pretty important thing for your starting quarterback. That's one reason that RP was kicked off the team. He kept screwing up and was not a leader.
My whole point is just that just because he made mistakes in the past doesn't mean that he can't be the guy he needs to be for LSU or any other school in the future.

Okay, fine. That's what happened to me.
For other people, they decide they want to get a decent job and make lots of money.
Other people have a tragedy and get a wake up call.
Lots of things cause people to change. My point is that people do change. Pretty narrow minded of you to just write the whole concept off because you are anti-religion. That wasn't my whole point.

Usually its when you realize you have to grow up. Its definately sometime after the freshman year.

I agree - you just psychologically mature so much during college. You are better able to empathize with others and your respect for consequences develops. I'm all for second chances if someone seems deserving (you have to trust your coaches to make the right decision) and they're put on a tight leash.
Then again, my fiance always accuses me of being too soft.

Be happy that with absolutely putrid offensive numbers spread between two QB’s, you still are going to ink a cannon for an arm, boob grabbing stud, don’t look to the internet for justification.

I'm not looking to the internet for justification.
I'm providing justification. Big difference.

Those whom He chooses tend to make those changes... I am thankful everyday that He choose me.

Ok. I guess I just don't really care all that much. The only way I won't like him is if he sucks.

When he drops 300+ yards on Oregon no one is going to remember what he grabbed or when and where he grabbed it!!!!

Fair enough.
I'm just responding to some of the concerns about his past indiscretions. If he keeps blowing it, you have a problem. But, maybe he's seen the light? Anyway, I trust Les to be the judge, especially after he was willing to kick RP off the team considering how much it messed up the team.

Exactly.
And no way that happens.

It could. They aren't much for defense.
When is the last time an LSU QB threw for 300+?
Did Matt Flynn do it?
