When you trade a player to the Hornets, if they have a salary less than our exceptions you will see a black drop down that says something like "use exception" which lets you pick which one to use.

Why would Peja waive a half million of his trade bonus? To be a full time starter? Anybody have an idea why he would do this?

I think he was ready to move on to a better situation.

He will still make an extra $400,000 because of the trade.

Because when you make $14 mil in one year, half a mil is arse wiping money.

I understood about 10% of the article, but this part sounds promising -

And as noted, the Hornets now have additional opportunities to improve the roster because of this trade -- and the Bosh trade before it, which was, of course, a key piece of the Miami SuperFriends' maneuver. Demps has another large trade exception in hand, and he can acquire an additional $3.9 million in salaries without straying back into luxury-tax territory. By taking advantage of that, he has a chance to further appease Chris Paul, his franchise point guard, after acquiring Jack, one of CP3's best friends.

Through accounting voodoo Demps turned Peja, Bayless, and our $6.2 million MoPete trade exception into Jack, Banks, Andersen and a $9.7 million Peja trade exception.

Yeah, we also can still cut Pops and Mbenga if we need to which would give us almost $2 million more under the tax to make moves. The job Demps has done is kind of mind boggling.

Demps should be GM of the year.

Team looks good so far, hopefully we can make another move and improve us some more.
