Sorry, but what's the difference, and what technically does it mean for LSU?

you can NO LONGER FORFEIT BECAUSE OF THE frickING BCS COMPUTERS. get it!!!!!!!
they have to stay in tact, so they made a different rule called vacating.

I am GUESSING only.
Vacating: Schools volunteer giving up games won.
Forfeiting: Schools are forced to give up games won.
Or it could be the other way around???
Either way, it will be a much better situation for LSU if Auburn has to vacate or forfeit games in which Cam N. has played.

You're still not really answering the guy's question, though.

Forfeit means auburn loses LSU wins. I'm not sure which one but vacating either means the final score and everything stands but auburn loses (so essentially we both lose) or the game just never happened

It's an interesting question. I think I'm going to yell at you for not searching. That seems to help things. Not really.
Forfeiting a game, from what I understand, means that the opponent is considered the winner. A vacated win does not make the opponent the winner. They still keep the loss. However, the team vacating does not get to claim the win.
It would probably both help AND hurt LSU, but the help might outweigh the hurt. If their Ws became Ls, they would probably drop in the polls and computers. Thus, our SOS would drop significantly. However, it would then make us the leader in the West. We would then get another quality game in the SECCG, helping the SOS and computer ranking.
The effect on LSU is really hard to determine, as there are a lot of variables at play.

I'm really not sure how the computers would treat vacated wins. It would almost be unfair not to leave their record intact in the eyes of the computer, but just declare them ineligible for ranking.

I disagree with this statement. Even if they vacate Auburn's win, they will not likely credit us with a win and/or vacate our loss. Even if they did, there would be a poll-voter backlash against us preventing us from jumping any remaining unbeatens and possibly even promoting one-loss BigTen or BigXII teams over us.
LSU's best hope is that Auburn loses on the field to at least two of UGA, Bama, SECCG opponent and our one-loss record is enough to get us in if/when the right chips fall in the right places.

I guess the question is, though, would that really be the effect, especially as to the computers?
Could they really calculate our loss to them as a loss to a team with NO wins? Creates quite a paradox, no?

Vacating the win just means that the team takes the win out of their record books. For the team vacating the win it is like it never happened. But, for the team that lost it is still a loss. A forfeit is as the game didn't take place but, the forfeiting team gets a loss and the other gets a win.

the only way the computers would be screwed up is if auburn would have forfeited the wins. you see, that allows opponents records to change and that will be horrifying for the computers. they would have to go to week one and start all over again because x beat y now and y beat z and w beat t, etc..... get it?

So, our loss to Auburn is still a loss to an undefeated team?

the "undefeated team" didn't exist for this year.
that's how the voter/computers would look at it.

Don't the computers have to factor in the quality of the opponent to whom we lost, though?
How will they do that under the scenario you're laying out? I'm not quite sure how you can fator in "they didn't exist", but still factor in the loss.

not if that team didn't exist for the entire year in the eyes of the computer.

the human portion of the bcs will but the computers won't.
