This is dumb....

power hitters are going yard regardless of the bat, this only affects players with below average power...

I tend to agree. Good hitters are still going to hit regardless of the bat they are using.

It isn't just about power hitters hitting homeruns. It will have an effect on every hitter because the issue is how deadening the new bats are. Some balls that would have gone through the infield will now be caught, some that would have been doubles will now be singles, etc.

Again, the safety concern is a good one. But in their haste to get something done they have over reacted and changed the game in the opposite direction.

MOT, i admit to not being that familiar with the precise spec.s of the new allowed metal bat. there has already been one change since my son pitched and i was raising hell. also, if it doesn't even match wood, that's not right. if it at least matches wood, there will be home runs, esp if the fences come in a little. i'm not advocating major fence changes because it changes the field dimensions too much. oh, and it wasn't me that made the pitcher vs right field comment.

today's wooden bats are more dangerous (and more expensive) than many aluminum bats. the issue is weight vs length of course with the idea of maximizing bat speed with the type of swing used today (from the hypothetical barrel). todays wooden bats reduce weight by shaving, usually at the handle and inset at the top of the bat. this contributes to lots of broken bats; broken at the handle and the barrel becomes a missle. it is dangerous to the players mostly, but to the fans as well. to me, the perfect solution for college is to have an aluminim bat that approximates the wooden bat as to swing speed.

i like the idea of small ball.....it really does make the game play more interesting....and if they would ever go to wooden bats.....LSU would have one of most quality and most used wooden bats in mlb being made here in BR

I've heard about the new bats but don't know much about them. Are they actually worse then wood bats?

People actually watched it? Wasnt it the lowest TV ratings of all time?

I NEVER watch MLB unless Im in town to visit a stadium. I cant stand it. I love college ball though and dont get what was wrong with the already toned down bats last year.

Everything Im hearing sounds like a juiced up Barry Bonds would have trouble hitting a HR with these bats.

You really think it would be too expensive and dangerous? I am pretty sure most college programs are sponsored by companies, so they don't pay for bats. Even for the small schools and jucos it wouldn't be much more expensive, though. Balls would come off slower, so I don't see it as being dangerous.

True. But from what I have heard they hit 1-2 in bp nowadays compared to 15-20 last year. That is very significant....college pitchers will lose fear of throwing inside and begin jamming the hitters....look for the lowest run total in at least 35 years. Interest will fade and the NCAA will go back to the explosive bats b/c they care more about $ than safety.

I definitly see this happening.

NCAA doesnt give a rats arse about college baseball though.. They see it no differently than college volleyball.

If we cant use what the MLB players use because its still too dangerous lets just play cabbage ball. Screw the sport.

Your absolutely right. I may be wrong but at one time LSU had the only or one of very few baseball programs that actually made money so now there will probably be no programs that turn a profit or self sustain their baseball program and the NCAA won't care about the minority.
