War Cash Eagle - LSU Alabama might be playing for SECW Title Satur

Perhaps Cam Newton's million-dollar smile only cost Auburn $200,000.
John Bond, assistant coach at Mississippi State released a statement today claiming that he had been approached by a former teammate representing Cam Newton during the recruiting process last year and the going price for Newton's services would be $200,000.00.
Bond reported the incident to Mississippi State's Athletic Director who allegedly told Bond not to respond to the request for money but to continue recruiting Newton.
Auburn's Head Coach Gene Chizik has not commented on whether or not Newton was paid but said emphatically "Cam Newton IS eligible to play".
The NCAA is investigating the situation to determine whether or not they agree with Chizik.
Newton's father, Cecil has been asked to turn over financial records and has denied any wrong doing. According to certain reports, Newton the elder's church, where he is actually the Pastor has recently been blessed with a complete renovation, which kept it from being condemned.
The Auburn faithful is praying that their season hasn't been condemned. If Newton is suspended then upcoming games against Georgia and at Alabama just got a lot more difficult.
Consider this; the LSU Alabama game just got a lot more serious. At 7-1 (4-1 SEC) both teams could now be playing for front runner status in the hotly contested SEC West race.
If Alabama wins in Tiger Stadium on Saturday their destiny is completely within their grasp regardless of what happens with Newton.
For LSU on the other hand, beating Alabama is just the first, if not very big, step in fighting it's way to Atlanta.
What had been all but a pipe dream, Auburn losing twice, could be a possibility without Newton but even more interesting is what happens if Newton is deemed to have been ineligible this year.
Auburn would likely have to vacate it's wins on the year and Saturday's game in Tiger Stadium is suddenly the de-facto SECW Championship.
The answer might not be known for sometime, given the NCAA typical 'deliberate' manner by which it paces such investigations. However, fresh off of Reggie Bush vacating his Heisman Trophy the NCAA is not likely to allow the current Heisman's frontrunner's status to be in question for long.
Imagine this, Auburn could end up undefeated but unable to play in the post season and could therefore, for a third time (1994, 2004, 2010), have the best team in the country and not a single Championship to show for it.
Meanwhile, LSU—which became the first 2-loss Champion in the Modern Era in 2007 when the were 'undefeated in regulation' but winless in triple overtime—could be the first team ever to lose two games in regulation (Tennessee, Auburn) yet wind up undefeated and playing for a National Championship.
Scott Van Pelt said that Les Miles has mystical powers, do you still doubt him?

Even if Newton is found is guilty of this, we won't get the win. Auburn will just vacate the game.

this is mind boggling.........or miles boggling.

Uh no.
The NCAA will investigate and won't come out with a ruling for a couple of years.. just like with USC.
Auburn will still win the west and probably the national title this season. But it'll be vacated.

My heart tells me people are jumping the gun on this and nothing will come of it but you have to think it is interesting how it came out today. Maybe there could be something to it and the news is breaking to buffer the shock.

the USC dealings were with a former player, nothing came out while he was still playing
NCAA will act faster since this is a current student-athlete

Auburn would have to vacate ALL of it's wins putting us and Bama in a (retroactive) current tie for first place, meaning Saturday (would be)is for all the marbles.

The NCAA does nothing fast. You think they're going to have a ruling by December 4th? ![](https://images.tigerdroppings.com/Images/Icons/IconLOL.gif)

I know this is a crazy and novel idea but I would rather LSU actually beat a team and earn it's way to the title. Winning it by default is not the way to go. This is wishful thinking on some fans part.

well the way i see it, yes you're right; however, if cam is ruled ineligible the rest of the season, auburn is screwed. they are highly mediocre w/o him, and they could easily lose to both bama and uga if he doesn't play in those games. aj green was benched for 4 games for selling his own jersey. unc had to sit 13 players against us. anything can happen w/ the way the ncaa is handling improper benefits these days.

Do you think LSU would have beaten Auburn if they didn't have Cam Newton? I do.
But, here's the rub. If Cam Newton had gone to Miss. St., I think State would be undefeated right now and LSU would still be 7-1, so it is kind of a wash.

I guess I was kind of looking at the big picture with Auburn. I still can't see the NCAA doing anything with Cam before Auburn plays Georgia in 8 days. And once Auburn beats Georgia they'll clinch the West... if LSU beats Alabama. Which they have to do in this scenario everyone's talking about.

I think the NCAA will come up with a decision before the sec championship game. look at how fast they came out with a decision on aj green and how fast they came to a decision on unc. i think espcially since newton is a heisman front runner and auburn is a national title contender. i think the ncaa will act fast

This is all a conspiracy to position a 1 loss Alabama team to be in the BCS championship game. Bama has to take care of business this week, but they want Newton inelligible or forced to sit out for the Iron Bowl. Believe me, Bama is at the bottom of this, not Miss St.

Even when Les loses games, he still wins them. Keep wanting my friends.
