Movies that suprised you how good they were.

Seems like we've had this thread a few times before but my recent movies to come from Netflix got me thinking.
I decided to check a few ELVIS movies out, mainly because I remember my mom loving them when I was a kid. And I started a thread about them not too long ago.
1st up, King Creole. WOW. I didnt know this was directed by Michael Curtiz (Cassablanca, The Adventures of Huck Finn, Comancheros), so when I saw his name on the package, I go a little excited. But the story was actually very, very good. Who would have thought, take Elvis, and make him a singer!! Instead of a race car driver, pilot, doctor or whatever rediculous profession he normally has. From the get go, the songs were great too.

In probaby my favorite decade of movies, this is bound to make my top 20.
Next; Kid Galahad. Another very good ELVIS movie. This time around he is a ex-military/mechanic/boxer/singer. Yeah there's a lot going on there but the movie puls it off. Like King Creole, there is good acting all the way around. If you havent seen it, check it out. And again, good music throughout.

So the point is I was completely suprised how well done these movies were and how enjoyable they turned out to be.

I wouldn't call it good but I thought the Butterfly Effect was going to be the worst movie ever when I took my then girlfriend (who loved shitty movies and was pretty much a dumbass all around) to see it. It wasn't anything special but I was able to sit through it.

Lord Of The Rings - Fellowship of The Ring. I thought it was going to suck.

American Beauty
Going by the previews, I thought it was going to be some silly romantic comedy with a little drama thrown in the mix. Boy was I wrong. Sure, it has a few funny moments, but I never thought it would get so serious and dramatic as it ended up being. I also didn't see it going in the direction that it did. Great movie.
Up in the Air
It had a lot of hype prior to its theatrical release, but I didn't see what everyone was going nuts about. It didn't look that interesting and like American Beauty, it didn't look very dramatic. Boy was I wrong again. Much more dramatic than I anticipated and was very interested in the plot as the movie rolled along, the total opposite of what I thought while watching the trailer. Another great movie.

Changeling. I thought that movie was going to be horrible. I almost did not see it. I thought it was surprisingly good.

Butterfly Effect is the first movie that comes to mind.

Mean Girls
I was surprisingly shocked that I enjoyed that movie.

Kick arse
I though it was going to be some bland cash in on the whole comic book thing, but it's a great action movie.

Me too. I loved the animalistic scene in the cafeteria.

This, I was extremely surprised with The Butterfly Effect.

The Rundown.
The Rock is awesome, though, so I shouldn't have been that surprised.

He was solid gold in Be Cool. Every scene he was in was hilarious. Him and Andre 3000.

Speaking of Ashton Kutcher movies, I kind of liked "What Happens in Vegas." I wouldn't exactly rave about "how good" it is but I enjoyed it more than I thought I would.

I also did not care to see Wanted, I thought it was just going to be 2 hours of bullet curving (which is all the trailers ever showed) I was surprised how good it actually was.

The Aviator. Until that point I didn't realize Leo was even good, much less as good as he actually is.

Supporting cast was hilarious.
Zach Galifianakis made me lol a few times.
When im hanging out talking to some chick I sometimes pull the "if. you... ever need someone to talk to (put the whole beer bottle neck in your mouth) just give me a call". Normally kills.

The Dawn of the Dead remake is a whole lot better movie than it should have been.
