MARTA question for ATL area Tigers

I'm planning to take MARTA in for the game from the Buckhead station, likewise on the return trip. I noticed that the MARTA schedule only has northbound departures at many stations until about 9:30pm. Considering that the game may run close to midnight, will there be any problem getting back to Buckhead afterwards on MARTA? Thanks for the help, I'm a total noob with this.

No, they take special events into account. It doesn't have to be a 70,000 person football game, a 15,000 at the Philips Arena is enough to trigger the late running trains. You'll be fine.

I didn't want to scare the OP with my MARTA horror story. But what the hell, I will.
I went to a concert once, hopped on the train afterwards, and it was crowded. My then fiance now wife sat down, and I stood kind of leaned against the side/back of the seat.
So I feel this light contact against my leg, then it goes away. Then it comes back. Then it goes away.
I turn and look back and there is a 50 year old hippie mounting her boyfriend/husband/fellow hippie freak, and riding him in public.

we went for the 01 SEC CG. Gotta be quick or you'll miss the MARTA. My buddy was a little too drunk and slow and we boarded and watched as the doors shut and he was left all alone... He said it sobered him up really fast.

I was there in 96 Peach, 00 Peach, 01 SEC, 03 SEC, 07 SEC. My seats SUCKED every time...in other words, had to filter down from the top of the stadium, it took forever and I STILL caught the train. I think it will be okay.

Good news and Not so good news:
Good News - I just checked with MARTA info and he said they definitely will add extra runs right around high use periods for the game.
Bad News - Be aware MARTA service stops at 1 am Friday and Saturday. If you stay out you may need a cab to get back to your hotel. Downtown to Midtwon is around $8 and to Buckhead it's $20 or more.

MARTA usually closes down completely late....but they have a extended schedule for special events. They'll add cars to lines too.
I'd expect a packed train there and back.

MARTA isn't safe
My past experiences haven't been bad when I used it after LSU games. There are usually tons of college football fans on the train. It's basically the same people inside the stadium just in a different setting.

What about going from downtown to the buckhead pub crawl...
How late do they run going back downtown?

You'll be fine. Mostly fans on the post-game trains. I've taken MARTA 4 or 5 times after Saints or LSU games in the GA Dome up to the northern 'burbs. The biggest hassle is the line at the station immediately after the game. Go have a beer or a bite to eat after the game, and you won't have to wait. The trains have run late after every event I've been to down there.
As far as safety goes, I don't think it is "unsafe" There can be the occasional crazy crackhead type, but that's the exception rather than the rule. I've taken MARTA from Doraville and Sandy Springs, to/from ATL (white guy with luggage) and never had a problem.

I lived in Atlanta for over 20 years and I've never had a problem with Marta. Not that I'll used it this weekend though, cause I'm way up past the north end of it, and I can get to and from the Dome and downtown much quicker in my own vehicle, and if my car is full, parking is roughly the same as the Marta fees.
After the game, it's going to be full of College FB fans. If you are going north, just make sure you get on the right train before the Lindbergh station, cause one goes to Chamblee, and one goes to North Springs.

New question:
I'm staying near airport. Have done some research and see that I need to take red or gold line (north/south train) to Five Points Station. How long (and dangerous) is the walk from Five Points Station to GA Dome?
What about safety on way back after game? Should I just take a cab?
