Parking info near the LSU alumni party in Athens
Posted by Tiger TBone on 9/27/13 at 5:09 pm
Just scouted the area downtown for those planning to attend the alumni event at the New Earth Music Hall on W. Dougherty.
The parking garage across the street will NOT be open to the public for parking. There are two churches on the corner of Prince/Dougherty and Pulaski. Both should have parking available, and that's the shortest walk. There are other open air lots in the area within a block, but there was no indication if there would be paid parking tomorrow. If you want to park in a parking garage, the closest to New Earth is on Washington Street. Was told they charge $25 for the day. That's about 2 blocks away from the Alumni event.
If you are coming, Rant readers can beat the door upcharge by saying "Jimmy Ott" and getting in for the advance price of $25. Doo Dah link for full details.

Man, you got that right. I always said that Saban would have blown a gasket dealing with the Katrina adversity.
He is everything we could want for a coach to be. And he's a really decent guy and family man.
I've had my WTF moments with him like everyone else but his record is nothing short of amazing for being in the SEC and LSU consistently getting hosed with the toughest schedules.

Reminder for those in Athens tomorrow- Come to the LSU Invasion tailgate party being put on by the LSU Atlanta alumni and Georgia TAF at New Earth Music Hall in downtown Athens. Remember to say "Jimmy Ott" get in at the $25 advance price. Do link for details!

I hope we see a huge Tiger win Saturday. That is when I will say it doesn't get much better than this. A lot of Dawg fans I know are poor losers and even worse winners. I still remember that last play loss in 1999 in Sanford and we were taunted several times walking out with shouts of "Dawgs kicked your arse!" REALLY? One point loss at the very end? Almost as bad as the Ramma Jammas.
We need a big win to keep the pooches under the porch around here. See you Saturday!

Going through Birmingham adds 15-30 minutes to the drive depending on time of day. The upside is you can make a rest stop in Tuscaloosa and leave a "layaway" down payment for November.
I live in ATL and always drink 3 cups of coffee and hold it in until I get to the Bama welcome center on I-85. Helps make that boring run more satisfying.

I, too, lived in Alpharetta for a while back in the late 80's to early 90's. My kids graduated from Milton HS and my oldest son received a scholarship from the Atlanta LSU Alumni Association to attend LSU.
Super! My favorite LSU Atlanta chapter event is our Sweet Send Off reception for incoming freshmen from Georgia. Feels good to raise $ to provide some incentive for kids to go to LSU.
Miles is doing a pretty good job of getting Jawja boys to come play for the P&G too!
My kids graduated from Milton as well. Wish they could have gone back to their birthplace for college but it's all good. They wear LSU colors and represent as if they graduated from the Ole War Skule.

Hasn't been yet this year.
We are healthy on the front end of a murderous SEC run. I think we roll Saturday, but if our O line takes some injury hits Mett may not have that much pocket time down the line.
The real test is how we stand up in November.
See y'all in Athens Saturday!

Jimmy has been a friend of our chapter and helped promote our activities when the Tigers come to Ga. He knows the promoter helping us out pretty well too. Why not give him some props by naming a discount after him? LOL

More power to ya Tigerman. We know lots of folks are flying in and don't have tailgate stuff with them, also it's almost impossible to get near campus to tailgate if you are a visitor. Many choose to hit the bars on Broad Street instead. New Earth is a couple blocks above that strip and will be 100% LSU friendly so it is a GREAT option.
The legion of LSU fans over here in Jawja want to make sure our P&G brethren have a place where they will be welcomed and can party with two or three hundred other rabid fans.
Have fun!

Hi all, if you are coming to Athens plan to park downtown and come to the LSU INVADES ATHENS party at New Earth Music Hall being hosted by LSU Atlanta and Georgia TAF with a little help from our friends.
Doors open at 11, $25 gets you in and includes a great authentic La. buffet lunch, wide screen TVs, prize giveaways, appearance by 3 former LSU football greats, Jimmy Ott and other media folks, Abita Beer specials and NO WOOF WOOF WOOF FANS! Kids 12 and under $5. You also get free re-entry after the game to party while the traffic moves out. If you don't have tickets, you can watch the game inside or outside on big screen TVs in friendly environment.
Price goes up to $35 day of event but mention "JIMMY OTT" at the door and you can get in for the advance price of $25.
Any proceeds after paying food and rent goes to the LSU Atlanta Scholarship Endowment Fund. LSU Atlanta now gives 2 scholarships a year to Georgia HS students wanting to attend LSU. One of our students plays drums in Tiger Band!
Do the link for full info and link to music hall location downtown Athens.

Brewhan Davey? ROTFLMAO!
One of my all time fave Tigers. What a competitor! I was pleased to meet him in ATL when he came to one of our alumni functions. He had a girlfriend in town and was talking about getting serious with her. Not sure if they ever took the next step. She was as hot as a tight spiral.

What bars will the rant be crashing?
Park Bar one short block from CNN Center is the LSU Atlanta official tailgate bar. Party Sunday night after the Les Miles Show at STATs sports bar up Marietta St. and bar will be loaded with Tiger fans all thru New Year's Eve.
BTW STATs is partly owned by a Tulane alum and they wouldn't talk to us about hosting...but they are making cheese off of the Miles show. Go to the show as I am and drink at a place that supports LSU instead of laughing at you leaving while counting your money.

That's where the lion's share of people will be. If you want a large crowd with a mix of fans right next to the dome, that's your best bet. We've hung out in that spot every time we've been to Atlanta, never been let down. Go to Buckhead after the game.
That place is convenient and it gets really congested. There's Dantana's in the same area that is more upscale but both charge a notch above normal as tourist traps.
Keep in mind that LSU Atlanta has arranged with Park Bar one block away to be the REAL TIGERS Fan HQ. And they offer better drink prices. If you like liquor you can get a 3-2-1 Special - Triple shot for the price of the double in one glass.
If you come in Sunday go to Park Bar that night after The Hat's radio show for the best scene and there will be a trivia contest and door prize giveaways around 10 ish.
One more important reason to consider partying with us at least part of your time here: Park Bar is donating a portion of all sales this weekend to LSU Atlanta's scholarship fund. Taco Mac, Dantana's and the rest couldn't care less what fans they bring in.
More info here.
Have Fun!

I guess that explains your location description. Just kidding, look forward to seeing you. Their big special is the 3-2-1...triple shots for the price of a double in one glass.
I expect many will be shatfaced before the carnage is over.

If you are planning to come to Atlanta to see LSU skulldrag Clemson, check out our chicken bowl Fan Guide with useful information.
Most importantly, we have arranged for a new official tailgate bar that is only one block from CNN Center. Park Bar just opened this year at the corner of Walton St. and Centennial Olympic Park Drive so it will be a very convenient meeting and party center for Tiger fans for Sunday and Monday. Drink prices and specials will be the best of any bar downtown.
The place will rock with a Sunday night welcome party, door prizes and our 2nd annual Trivia Contest emceed by the Evil Twins and LSU Atlanta's Mike A. Tiger. You never know who might show up!
We know this is not the destination most Tiger fans wanted to be in a bowl, but another big win in the Georgia Dome will set the stage for an incredible run next year and we plan to kick it off RIGHT!

Go to Hotwire.com and select downtown area and then CNN Center as the location, they got a few good deals there within 1.7 mi of the Dome.
I took a shot at the 4 star hotel deal and just got 2 nights at the Sheraton for $78/night. we live 30 mi. north of town and decided to get a room and stay downtown to hang with everyone.
Check out LSU Atlanta fan guide at www.LSUatlanta.com for info on alumni tailgate bar.

IS that pitypat's porch restaurant any good?
Me and wifey have eaten there several times. Very few places in town really represent the Southern culture and this place does a good job with both atmosphere and food. Decor is Old South (Pittypat's is a reference to Gone With The Wind) and the food is a fusion of traditional style with some new South tweaking by the chef. Fried chicken is very good and the sides are all spot on. Several menu options meat pork and fish too. Salad bar is remarkable in that it has several things you hardly ever see...Hoppin' John, pickled watermelon, bean salad, etc. They bake their rolls and cornbread on site and the baker has been with them for over 20 years.
It's not cheap but not overly priced compared to other downtown restaurants, but note that they have a buffet special on Saturday starting at 10:30 am that I will be all over. Ribs, pulled pork, chicken 2 ways plus hot bar and salad bar for only $15.95 per plus those drink specials. They pour an honest shot too, the hurricane is a good Cat 2 intensity LOL.
There will be lots of LSU people in there Saturday, the alumni charter group is staying at the Westin across the street and will be taking advantage of this deal.
Have fun. Come see us at Sidebar Friday or Saturday too. If you want bar fare food the Cuban sandwich at Sidebar is pretty darn good.
Travel safe.
