When is the last time a QB entering his Jr season has faced this much criticism from the national media?

Almost every preview I've read makes JJ out to be a liability to the team.

I guess we can all prepare for season of Gary Danielson enlightening us on everything JJ is doing wrong.

FTR, I think JJ shuts some critics up this season. If all this criticism doesn't motivate him to improve, nothing will.

Would be 20x worse if it was Lee

All ones I read say the same thing "If Jefferson improves LSU will...."

The rant does a better job about that.

He really doesn't even need to improve much, I mean working on his throwing motion and learning to get rid of ball quicker. If Crowton would create the offense around what Jefferson is great at and quit putting him and others in situations they do not look comfortable in things should naturally improve.

What? Gary Danielson seemed to like Jefferson.

This is what annoys me the most about Crowton, he seems to call plays that made our qbs look uncomfortable running, but the ones they did look comfortable would disappear

as you are my boy deuce, i have one slight objection:

All ones I read say the same thing "If the O-Line improves, Jefferson improves, and LSU will...."

to me, it's all about the O-line this year. Which is ironic considering that's Miles' specialty. No O-line improvement, a disappointing season, and a fired head coach.

Rewatching the auburn game last night was very revealing. Crowtons offense sucks.

The players have to overcome the play call

O-Line really was not as bad as it seemed last year. I have had conversation about this on here already and really Hitt/Black/Barksdale there is no telling how much they were covering those new guys last year and it turn hurting their own performance. I mean if 1 player misses an assignment the entire offensive line can look like shite. If you have 5 guys miss 1 assignment each that would have been 5 horrible plays out of the 45-50 LSU was running last year. Hell if they miss only 2 assignments, whether that means a player pulls wrong, blocks the wrong guy, maybe he gets pushed back, and then it can make the entire line look bad. There were issues but it was not totally the offensive line, there were also times the line looked good for 4/5 seconds before allowing pocket to collapse and Jefferson just had not gotten rid of the ball or the running back ran into the first defender there and went down. A QB with a quick release takes pressure off and offensive line and a good offensive line takes pressure off QB. Last year neither helped the other out and we saw that.

I don't know about that. Black had bad knees and was getting beat often. Hitt was not much better.

I expect that if we have a descent O-line, we should be able to line up and knock a team like La Tech off the ball and run the ball somewhat no matter what. It never happened.

I agree, a little more pocket awareness and we're on our way.

i don't.

if our o-line was where it should be, we would have no problem running the ball with the loaded backfield we have had for the last 2-3 years.

are we gonna blame us not being able to run the ball on our RB's?

It's not all O-Line, but it's certainly a majority of it. Besides Crowton's playcalling, O-Line was our biggest liability last season. An improved O-Line means more rushing which opens the offensive play book (instead of Crowton forcing things that don't work) and takes pressure off of Jefferson.

Jefferson still needs to improve his footwork in the pocket, his release mechanics, and his internal clock as it concerns downfield vision.

The reason they are on him is were were dumb enough to let ESPN show our Spring game live so the whole world could see him fire passes at people's feet and 10 yards over their heads. He looked LOST. IN A SPRING GAME!

Add to that fact his performance against Florida and Ole Piss last year and the 34 sacks he took.

that is the reason.

I'm hoping he is a lot better this year. I'm pulling for the guy and will be rooting him on hard come Sept 4.

agreed.

i feel like from what i've read jefferson has put in the off season work to improve his game. he just needs a line that can run block and pass block to take the pressure off of him.

it will overall, open up our offense, and we won't be in 2nd and longs, and 3rd and longs because we can't run the ball on 1st and 2nd downs.

JJ and the running backs were fine last season. The OL sucked and ruined the offense. It all starts in the trenches.

JJ is the second best returning starter at QB in the SEC behind Mallett.

Jefferson is big, strong, mobile, and accurate. He still has an enormous amount of upside too. He definitely doesn't deserve the criticism he has received from our fanbase and others.

Actually, look at the stats for sophomore SEC starters - JJ compares favorably to guys like Greene and Woodson. He also could be Ben Tate. But I absolutely dispute the notion that he didn't have good numbers for a sophomore QB. just because hewasn't Tebow right away doesn't mean he didn't have a good campaign. the question is, can he build off his promising sophomore year?

Being a decent QB as a sophomore is usually considered a good thing, but he does have to build off of that.

This is just naive. He was the only reason we had a chance to win that game.
