Going to see a screening tonight!
I'll post my thoughts later...or maybe tomorrow because I'll be tired after the late show.

I really haven't seen shite this summer.
I wouldn't mind watching this. Hopefully it's more like the original and less like AvP as far as quality goes.
Inception is my must see for the summer though...

It looks pretty good with the exception of Adrien Brody. Why do they keep casting him as a hardass. Its just not believable

When else wa he cast as a hardass? I don't remember this

Rotten Tomatoes was @ 100% on this movie earlier in the day

He was supposed to be a hardass in King Kong. I thought there was one other one, let me check.

Overall, I enjoyed this greatly delayed addition to the series (and by series I mean of course Predator I and II, not the AvP crap) but it was mildly disappointing in terms of originality.
What you'll find is an atmosphere, setting and mood much similar to the original - with the creepy jungle music, eerie suspense, more realistic violence, etc. Also, and what distinguishes this from the crap that was the AvP series, real actors like Adrien Brody and the like make the movie seem more credible. I liked the personalities chosen to compose the unlucky group cast on the planet but it doesn't approach the group in the original - not many could given there were two governors and Apollo Creed in that one.
Bottom line - the movie is entertaining. The "new" Predators introduced in this one are very cool, the action is fairly sustainable, the creepy suspense in the first 30 mins. or so is well done, and Adrien Brody was very good as the lead in my opinion.
My only complaints were one of the twists at the end, and the lack of originality toward the end of the movie, culminating with the climax. You'll see what I mean - there's a scene that seemingly mirrors the scene in the original where the Indian guy makes his last stand on the bridge with the machete.
If you're a fan of Predator and Predator II, you'll likely enjoy this movie. Just don't expect it to come close to the original overall...it just can't happen in these kinds of movies where the "mystery" of the evil creature is significantly diminished by this point in the series.
Sorry for the rant.
ETA: The movie does reference the original in a couple ways that I enjoyed. So, the movie does extend from the original for those wondering...

Thanks, Jwodie. I am seriously considering sneaking away from the wife and kids and checking this one out this weekend. I am a big fan of I and II and am not expecting anything of epic proportions just some solid sci fi action. The original holds up extremely well over time. I think 20 years from now it will still be just as much fun to watch as it is today.

Totally agree. The movie had a perfect blend of great action stars along with the mystery and novelty of the Predator creature and story. I love the original.

FIFY
Don't really see a forcing into a badass role there...

im going to see this tonight.
The consensus among critics seems to be that if you're a fan of Predator 1 and 2, you'll enjoy this one.
I love the first Predator movie and I'm a big Adrien Brody fan. I really cant wait to see it

just watched. found it better than expected. built up nicely to the action without being dull. made references to the original flick and all in all, i'd recommend. not overly heavy, but who expects it to be?

Saw it today and was disappointed. Sorry. All the effects were there but the only character that seemed to fit was the girl. Compared to the original, it pretty much failed.
I compare it to the Alien series. The original monsters from Alien and Predator were mysterious. The follow-up flicks gave you alot more which ends up taking away from the whole coolness of the monsters.
The movie does not take any time to develop the characters. It just jumps right to it.
