Sparky Wade

He took his team farther than either of those other guys.

To answer the op's question, I gotta go with Shaq, but that's only because I was at LSU when he was. They never won any championships, but those were some fun teams to watch.

It's a good thing, since our football team absolutely sucked during my days at LSU.

I think that a pistol team would have been absolutely AMAZING to watch as was Shaq from what I hear.

You cant go wrong with either but since Pistol is the King of NCAA basketball and no one comes close its a no brainer for me

The Pistol, Shaq was great because of his size, and thats pretty much the extent of it

Shaq -- Better person, worse player

Pete -- Better player, worse person

Shaq was a great player, rebounder, etc. because of his size.Could not shoot his belt size in FT percentage.

Pete was a showman, the best ball handler college basketball has ever seen, great assist man and pure outside shooter. if the 3 point shot and 24 second rule would have been in effect he would have averaged over 55 points pper game.,

I idolized Pete as a kid in the 70's. He is the reason I started playing and following basketball. He was a better person toward the end of his life.

Pete was great no doubt. Everybody always brings up how many pts he averaged or would have averaged with a 3pt line but nobody seems to bring up that he averaged 39 shot attempts a game and 14 freethrow attempts a game. Those are the reasons his scoring records will never be touched. No player in college basketball will ever average 39 fga a game again.

Pete, by far.
He was surrounded by inferior teammates. Shaq had a good supporting squad at LSU.

Pete, for what he accomplished after his career ended. Shaq has also been a good LSU ambassador however.

Pistol.

I liked Shaq early in his career but somewhere along the line he started talking too much shite, saying off the wall stuff for attention and shock value, and generally became a horse's arse.

I like them equally. However, Pete was the greatest to ever play the game on any level. He did things that will never be duplicated. He changed the game forever.

I don't know bout "liked better", but Pete was a better showman and the greatest individual bb player I have ever seen at LSU.

I watched them both in person many times and Shaq was a force because of his size and agility and second only to Pete as LSU's best BB player. When Pete played he was held down to some degree b/c his supporting cast was always weak. I always felt he was capable of things all other players weren't capable of and if the level of competition had been better he would have been better. And the dufuss that said Pete wouldn't have been nearly as successful if black players were playing obviously never saw Pete play.I guess he wouldn't have made it in the pros if they had black players.Oh yeah never mind. I saw almost all of Pete's home games even his freshman year when most people would leave after the frosh game and before the varsity played.I was there the night Pete broke the NCAA scoring record.Anyone else there?

On the other hand, people can say that he wouldn't have averaged 30 a game if they had allowed African Americans to play.
I know you never saw him play if you make this statement.Pete had no outstanding teamates and so every team would TRIPLE team him yet he still set the scoring record.

I was at LSU during Pete's year at LSU. I think that it'll be some years before anyone can match his skills. What gets me is how some of you people can make comments about Pete or Shaq's personality. Did you guys who made negative comments about the type of personality each one had/has, actually met either one?
