"noone plays a better game of texas hold'em than the longwhorns" is a quote about this all came together

joe schad said UT was convinced by the big12 commish to stay yadda yadda yadda

why dont they just come out and say they are paying a premium to a shite conference b/c they were scared of what might happen, so they used their pocketbooks to buy big12 off?

So what did Texas want? Was the PAC-16 ever viable? It's almost certain that if Texas could have gotten what they wanted in the Pacific Athletic Conference, they would by now be the newest members along with the four other Big 12 schools. Without the opportunity to start their own network however, Texas' end game was more about power and money. By force feeding stories to the media via controlled leaks, the poker game played by Texas will end up being a case study in cutthroat business wheeling and dealing one day. Texas goes all in, forces Colorado and Nebraska to make their moves, A&M antes up with all their chips, and Texas calls their bluff. Wonderfully played Texas.

In your dreams. Texas made the best of a bad situation when A&M threatened to go to the SEC. Texas "salvaged" the deal rather well, though. But that crap about them playing their hand and forcing CU and NU is just a bunch of spin for the masses.

"Texas SAVED the big 12"- ESPN

Does ESPN have a vested interest in spinning these events positively for Texas and ther Big XII? I think they do.

I guess that is one way of looking at it.

Simple way to settle this:

If A&M agrees like the others to do whatever Texas does, where would Texas be now?

Had that happened, I have no doubt we would still be talking about what the SEC would have to do to counter the PAC-16.

The SEC and A&M were the flies in Texas' ointment. Spinning it any other way is just that, a spin job.

Texas' plan was not going as planned, and ESPN threw them a rope.

Yeah, Osborne would sooner cut off his arm than sign anything associated with UT. NU came out with what they wanted and the Buffs are probably high and don't know what they've done just yet.

Texas was going to the Pac-10. When A&M didn't play along, Texas went to plan B.

Is Texas in a better situation now than before all this shite started?

Big 10 expanded. Pac 10 expanded. Big 12 shrank.

Seems to me like Texas can't play hold 'em worth a crap.

ESPN has been at least a full day late in all of there reporting. It's the worst reporting job I've ever seen from any media sports organization covering something this big ever. ESPN Sucked!

that's an interesting take on it

my bias is they were using a lot of controlled leaks but a lot of things they didn't anticipate took place - and took some of their options out of their hands

they didn't force colorado out - colorado moved because they had wanted to join the pac 10 for a while and wanted to make sure Baylor or someone else didn't get their spot

they didn't force Nebraska out - Nebraska leaving was a bad thing that took cred away from teh Big 12 and made the huskers more money (and revealed their disgruntlement with the Horns pushy ways)

A&M forced Texas to stop their move to the PAC if anything - because they were serious about the SEC and Texas didn't want to lose control over the state.

Texas salvaged a good short term outcome but they had all sorts of unexpected things they didn't want or anticipate get in teh way

I can't believe they aren't blasting how big A&M's part in this was. They truly saved the conference by not being UT's bitch.
