I would think Slumberger and thier records would be brought into this really quick if this were the case, and I can not imagine the media not picking up on it

To this point:

BP is already under the bus and has been drug about a mile-and-a-half.

If...IF...that rumor is true, then SLB should seperate themselves as much as possible.

Spud McConnel also made mention of this rumor this afternoon on his radio show (WWL). Did not mention any company names or such, but did say he heard a group of guys from a certain company expressed concern and wanted to be flown off the rig. The group ended up calling their company head quarters who set up a flight off the rig. 6 hrs later, the rig exploded.

That's what I'm thinking. This whole story seems kind of odd. It seems something of this magnitude would have came to light sooner and would have received a lot of media coverage. The way the rumor is presented in such a grand fashion seems odd too. The SLB guy recognized the rig was about to blow, and he and crew get a heli lift just hours before it happens?

I don't have a horse in this race, and this story may be completely true or based on true events. But in life I have noticed that when amazing headlines are prefaced with "rumor", that they are usually just that.

In other words, Spud is reading our message board...

That's what I'm thinking, but if this rumor is true this should have come out right away.

Here's an interesting comment:

I have spent the last little while reading the comments and the article. Great article by the way.

I have been in the Oil and Gas industry for all of my adult life mostly in directional drilling and engineering. Whoever thinks you can’t “order” company men to do something is lacking in knowledge. I, myself, personally have ordered company men to do something based on my knowledge and based on what my “expertise” is which is directional drilling. Company men don’t know everything and aren’t the king of the patch as some might think. If the oil and gas company could do it all then they would have no reason to hire service companies like SLB, Halliburton, Baker, etc for certain applications. I read a comment that said “service companies like SLB can get a job and they have to leave” that is untrue. If SLB is contracted to do a job say on the Deepwater Horizon they’re there until the job is done. Period end of story. I happen to work for one such company and we’re at the rig both onshore and offshore until the job is done. SLB has a policy that if they feel things are unsafe they can and will leave the job without notice. I work for SLB and can tell you from first hand knowledge of what we were doing on the DWH that management at SLB told the crew and I quote “We’re done with that job whether it’s completed or not, we don’t want our fingerprints on it when something bad happens because of John Wayne”. Take it for what it’s worth. When all is said and done BP and the engineer/co-man will be standing alone. Decisions were made on that platform that shouldn’t have EVER been made and some great people lost their lives because of it.

This rumor was floating around my office like a month ago. Glad to know it may be more than that.

It is true and the CBLs were cancelled. Early in the disaster I asked whether anyone knew if CBLs had been run and someone with SLB came on here and said they were on location and sent in that morning.

Keep in mind that CBLs are not required by MMS. They would have planned to run CBLs with the completions rig.

I heard something about this a few weeks , what I heard was that BP sent Schlumerger home before completing the test, this make much more sense, (Schlumberger leaving on their own). BP is toast on this deal. I predict this thing un raveling very quickly now that the AGs are invloved. Someone is going to jail on this deal, if not, they should. There are a host of potential charges to go around and plenty of people to prosecute.
