Aliens seems to get more hype, but I thought Alien was by far the better movie. The suspense was fantastic.

The main problem I had with Aliens was Newt's character. These badass marines are getting destroyed yet this 8 year old girl can outsmart all of these aliens.

Both were very good though.

Pretty believable.

One can fit into small hiding places.

The other.....

"Game over man, game over!"

My only problem with Aliens was the 1st battle scene with the Marines. It was all fuzzy and the group went from 15 or so to four in like a minute.

Very close, I'd put Alien a little bit ahead just for being the first one. Pretty much equal IMO

I definitely think Alien is better, even though I love Aliens.

But really they are just different genres, the first being a horror/thriller and the second being much more of an action film.

Alien

And it's not close. At all. Smarter. More tense. Better characters and better villains. And Harry Dean Stanton.

Both were just great movies.

I have to sat I enjoy watching and rewatching Aliens more, so I give it the nod.

And as far as believability goes... the "let's split up and go look for Jonesy the cat in all the darkest parts of the ship after some weird hairless gopher alien just burrowed through our buddy's chest" is much less believable than Newt.

Aliens is by far the better adrenaline movie. Right up there with Die Hard. Those were the only two movies where I almost found myself screaming at the movie with excitement. Alien was far more distant and scary, but for the rush I always go with Aliens. The showdown with Ripley in the exoskeleton and the queen is one of moviedom's best moments.

Alien pegs the meter on the creepiness factor. Just think of the alien and Michael Myers...Halloween in space. Still...HDS' character bugs the shite out of me...you find the shd fricking skin, and go into the hangar area alone anyway??????

Aliens was am action movie, and a damned good one, with some scary/disturbing parts. The director's cut fleshes it out a little better. That said, a damned good movie.

+100000000

And Yaphet Kotto. Aliens is a dumb action movie. It's fun and I enjoy it, but its nothing more than a fun two hours. Alien is two of the most tense hours I have ever spent. Great, great movie.

Same.

Too bad the movie was shot on narrow film so no true wide-screen version can ever be made.

I think our child mind plays into it... Alien was a great movie and gave us chills .. then in aliens we get a little payback (or supposed to ) with some good ole' marines! and the Lamborghini Tank! or at least thats what I called it

I agree that Alien was better. Aliens was nothing but an action flick. Alien was a superior thriller.
