So what do yall think of the whole miniseries?
I think it was good, the ending was great with the summaries of all the characters.

i love in the last episode how the lady asked sledge what the marine core taught him and he answered "they taught me how to kill japs. i got pretty damn good at that"

Really good series. I still liked Band of Brothers better, but that's not to say this wasn't good.

I wasn't a big fan of this series until probably the last 4 episodes....ever since, I thought it was terrific.
It has given me a whole new appreciation for the Pacific front. I don't often read, but Sledge's book may be one worth reading.
As much as character development lacked at the beginning, I was enthralled by the end.

I pretty much agree. It was muddled at first but hit it's stride starting with the Basilone episode and was epic after that right until the end.
It was not Band of Brothers but what is? I've said before BoB was the best for TV production that has ever been made.
The Pacific was great.

Pacific delivered at the end. If the entire series would have been on that level, then it would have rivaled BoB.

I thought it was a great series and I too loved the summaries at the end. Was worth me signing up for HBO just for the series imo.
And....I'm not usually one to read war books, but I am considering reading the memoirs that the series was based on.

This was a terrific series. I'm not an emotional person but I almost shed a tear at the end. I couldn't respect these guys more

I know what you mean, it is very humbling the sacrifices those men
made.
made.

I'm not much on comparing it better or not to BOB. It is a different type story. BOB was based from a comprehensive award winning book by a historian. It gave some great broad views and perspective. TP is from personal memoirs of Marines. It gives less overall understanding or story about what went on in the Pacific on a larger scale. It delved rather into the psyche of what the grunt experienced. Europe and the Pacific were almost two different wars that happened at the same time.
This series has deepened my appreciation of what an entire generation not only went through but lived through afterwards. I'd love to find any surviving Pacific vets and do something for them

I agree, so many try to compare TP to BoB, completely different shows. The goal was not to make BoB II.

I thought it was great. I really think however that they could have left the entire Bassilone storyline out and been better off. While his story is great, it just didn't flow well with Sledge and Leckie's. Also the time devoted to it didn't really do it justice.

i'm not sure why people are comparing this to BoB, but whatever.
Great series. My only gripe (at the moment) is that I thought they should have spent a little more time showing Iwo Jima...

I enjoyed the series, slow moving in the beginning like some said, but hit home with the last few episodes. I salute all those guys that went through that.

6.5/10 .... until the last three episodes and then.... BOOM!

I give it a solid seven out of ten. If the first five episodes were like the last five, I would be giving it a nine or ten.
The first five episodes jumped around too much and didn't do enough in the way of character development.
For those that are criticizing anyone for comparing it to Band of Brothers, it is kind of hard not to when that is exactly how it was marketed by HBO, Playtone and Dreamworks.
