First attempt to stop oil spill with insertion tube has failed

No big surprise there I guess. Not only has first attempt failed but they have been given permission to spray the dispersant 24/7 at the leak. Some are saying the oil/dispersant combo is more toxic than just the oil and that the dispersant is allowing the oil to flow underneath the boom.
Unfrickingbelievable.

From a poster on another board. Still looking to see where he got it from.

BP's first riser insertion tube attempt failed when the frame that supports the siphon shifted. Everything had to be brought back to the surface and another attempt is underway. It will be late Saturday before it will be known if the second attempt is successful or not. And if successful they HOPE to start siphoning oil tonight sometime.

Sounds legit. "They" were not around to confirm "Some's" beliefs?

Cross your fingers.....The time draws near.

I hope that they are racing at top speed to get another oil well drilled at the leak point in order to cut off the flow to the current leak. This might be the only thing that will work. All of these other attempts at stopping the leak seem to my layman's eyes to be desperate and improvised, rather than part of a planned and tested doctrine.

they can't get one tube inside of another tube at the seafloor
what makes you think they can get one tube inside of another tube a mile below the seafloor?

Word is that the Insertion Tool was successfully inserted. Gas and oil was siphoned up to the Enterprise, which is encouraging. They are waitting on the oil to reach the surface once again......
Not sure how much oil is being intercepted....maybe all of it......maybe a portion....stay tuned.

I'm hearing thay they successfully inserted the new pipe into the broken pipe and the new pipe starting sending oil to the ship. But then 2 robots taking pictures collided and partially separated the pipes. They have to try to put it back together and could take 9 hrs.

Heard similar except for the 9 hour part.....THought they had re-inserted it and were trying it again with minimal success...

Maybe so, Sid. The 9 hrs might be from last night and I'm just hearing about it.
