A robotic arm on a sub to close the leak? Surely they have thought of this?

Rov has tried and it can handle the pressure at 5000 ft. A sub would be crushed at that depth. They can't manuallu close the bop for some reason.

Deep Submergence Vehicles have record depths of over 19000 ft. So yes people can go this deep easily. Wether or not a DSV can be of any help in this situation is another matter.

We know more about the moon and the surface of mars than our own ocean beds.

Yeah, in case you haven't heard the government dumped a little bit of money into this program called NASA.

I still don't know why they don't have a diver go down and use one of these.

I was going to say that the Titanic is much deeper than this wellhead (something like 12,000 feet down) and they have manned deepwater submersibles that go down to it.

Wonder if having real time eyes on the situation would help, even if they still had to rely on the ROV to do the work down there?

maybe it is a safety issue to keep them unmaned down there with the wreckage and the now, two leaks in the water column that must be pretty staturated at that site. Conjecture on my part though.

What do you think a manned submarine is going to do that an ROV built for this purpose can't?

The things are the size of hummers, and they have several out there.
