10 Hourly amount, in dollars, that BP has indicated it will reimburse clean-up volunteers.
If they're being paid, how are they volunteers?

4 Gulf State governors briefed Sunday by Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano and Interior Secretary Ken Salazar. (Gov. Jindal was with President Obama and missed the call.)
2 Days until the next conference call with the Gulf State governors.
0 Number of Democratic governors working with the administration in response efforts.
1 Number of Gulf Coast states won by President Obama in 2008. (Florida)
kinda nice that our elected officials can still put partisan rhetoric on the back burner in actual times of crisis.

What are their options?
He could be Stalin and they'd still be on the phone with him right now.

Just a random related question.. where does the other 28% come from and how much shrimp does the US import?

I'm guessing East Coast, around GA and the Carolinas.

That is another thing that pisses me off about this situation. The assholes out there will use this as a chance to get more chinease shrimp imported into the country. It wasn't enough that Walmart and most stores sell this crap exclusivly.

I am thinking the same thing. Even if the shrimp populations aren't hurt by the spill. Them closing the areas to fishing will necessitate the importation of asian seafood to meet demand. This will pretty much destroy the domestic market.

I don't think this spill is going to impact the crawfish industry.

You are 100% correct. I was thinking shrimp and typed crawfish.
Overall I think La will still be able to harvest most of their shrimp like usual, but you have to know that the slick power brokers are trying to convince distributors/stores all over the country not to take a chance with our shrimip.

Even before this oil mess I have heard of some shady LA shrimp packers taking foreign shrimp and slapping them in their own boxes and selling them as LA shrimp.

I don't doubt it. I still get mad about stores selling stuff with the label "Bernards" or some other cajun sounding name, yet the contents are from Asia.

I heard a guy on the radio yesterday say that 75% of the seafood harvested in LA comes from west of the MS river. If that's the case, which I believe is, then it shouldn't be too bad.

I wonder how much of that 72% is East of the Miss. delta vs. West (central LA to Brownsville, TX).
Almost none of the spill looks to impact west of the Miss. delta, right? that's good news for places like Morgan City I'm guessing.
And is any of that 72% from Mexican waters? (they do have a huge gulf coastline after all).
in too late.. thanks for the info.
