Stopped yesterday evening to pick up dinner since the wife wanted a catfish poboy. Got home and opened up the bag and started going through the food. Wife's poboy has mayo on it, she abhors mayo and yes it was ordered without mayo. 6 soggy onion rings to an order? And the shrimp on my poboy tasted old and had that shrimpy wang to them , threw it out to avoid the bubbling guts. And my hushpuppies were extra brown with an uncooked center. Time to change the oil guys. Gonna be a while before I go back. Back to Tommy's in the meantime.

Ever think of calling them. They would have replaced your order and given your money back. They are nice people.

I agree, you should have contacted them before posting. They are good people and I'm sure they would have offered to fix the problem.

Uhh a bit hasty with your first post to throw out the violin..

That doesnt sound like a bitter owner at all.
Why should a place get a pass for that here when nobody else does..

geeze, just giving my opinion guys! thought that was what this place was all about.

I'm not an owner, but I like the place, have never had a bad experience, and want to see it do well.

Oh, and I didn't realize the emoticons were offensive. I'll be more careful next time!

We've tried OTH several times and have never been even a little bit impressed. I've never understood the love they get on this board for their deli food.

Dempsey's is real good for fried shrimp, catfish & oyster poboys IMO.

ETA: I've been giving Dempsey's lots of love on here lately, but the level of service and the attitude of their employees at the Coursey location has dropped a notch since they opened a 2nd location. Food is still good though.

Wife and bigun ate there last spring and all was good. You can't transport fried seafood and expect it to be right. Hush puppies cooked at a high temp will always be brown and raw in the center...sometimes your help screws up...happens to me...anyone else???

agreed .. fried seafood needs to be eaten straight from the kitchen at the restaurant .. no one has built a better mousetrap with cooking oil .. as it cools, it gets soggy ... hush puppies can be inconsistent at any place you go .. sounds like a temp issue .. not old grease .. granted, screwing up with the mayo is the worst thing I see here .. but any owner worth their salt would replace this in a second ... I am sure these guys would have made it right ..

Some people on this board have an underdog complex for the local owned restaurants. And the owner did come here at first soliciting feed back on improvements to the food which earned him some credit. I think it's good that they'd be the type of place to fix a problem and that says something about them, but they still had an initial quality issue for the OP, why should that get swept under the rug?

The OP has experience with a direct competitor that has apparently worked out better for him. That's EXACTLY the kind of information this board is supposed to produce. If it was a rare mistake that will come out over time with more people posting about their great experiences with Off The Hook.

But maybe he doesn't want it fixed. Why should he be accomodating to them when he has other choices that he feels work out better for him? The restaurant industry is a tough business for many reasons, but one of them is that it's so competitive that you often don't get a second chance at winning a customer's loyalty.

And people shouldn't avoid Off The Hook because of this one thread either. Maybe he went at a bad time, maybe it was truly just a one off mistake, or maybe this thread will cause them to make improvements. The owner's solicited feedback from the site before to improve his offerings, so I'm sure he'll take this thread under consideration.

Ate at Off the Hook yesterday for a late lunch. It was packed and the food was good as usual. Had a shrimp poboy with mayo only no funny taste on the seafood.

Friday's are crazy during lent. Should have brought it back if the order was wrong. I eat over there 2-3 times a week as I work a couple buildings away and don't have any complaints.

It is a bummer to get tomatoes when you don't want them or mayo in your case. I think thats where the falling out of love may be from.

Concerning fried seafood takeout. The restaurant industry should design a breathable take out container that doesn't allow the food to steam within the container once it is closed. I don't care who you are, but if you put a french fry, Onion ring or anything else in a closed container that is still hot, it will be soggy.

Skillet works at Dempsey's. Nothing wrong with supporting your company. I'm all for that. I own a spray foam roofing company. If there was a board on here for Spray Foam Roofing, I would be posting about the company I work for to secretely. :)

I get it, no hard feelings!
