Soup Kitchen on Sienfeld...."No soup for you!"
Jason, its good to see such an outpour of well wishes on this thread. I always enjoyed the food and working next door to you guys for the last two years was nice!

Going out of business is no fun. As you know, in 2006, I did 25 Million in sales. In 2008, after taking about $500K in hits from customers that I had been selling since the late 80's, my bank pulled my $3 Million dollar line of credit and not much longer after that, I found myself unemployed.

I am better off today than I was when I did $25 Million in sales in 2006, I just didn't know it when I was forced into closing my doors. I thought it was the end of the world back then.

Keep your heads up and keep on pluggin away. Good things will come ya'll's way. Will see you guys Saturday when I get in from Jonesborro.

Stevie
I talked to him (as I was in the seafood business myself a while back) and he attributed it to their wholesale going down last year, the economy, and the oil spill. He said the building was mainly chosen to do wholesale and some retail. When the wholesale went down, the market was left to cover the costs and it didn't justify the location and it was too much overhead for a small restaurant. He said he also has not received anything from BP and has been having trouble with BP reimbursing him for high seafood prices, low seafood availability, and lower sales due to the spill.

I know lots of people in the seafood business and most of them are hurting right now. Some say their sales are the worst it has been in over 30 years right now. Their isn't a lot of seafood to begin with and then a lot of people are afraid to buy it.

Plus the local seafood industry has been taking a beating for years with imports. Imports are so cheap that it makes it a hard sale even here and especially across the country where imports prevail. And with this spill that just happened, imports will only strengthen their market share.

Off the Hook has let me down the last couple of times I've been there.

I've never had a bad meal or poboy at Off the Hook. Poboys have always been overstuffed and bread toasted just like in New Orleans. One of the only places to get an authenic roast beef poboy like New Orleans also.

I've tried Tommy's and like it also.

Off the Hook has them in south Baton Rouge. Maybe Jimbo's seafood or Louisiana Cajun Seafood on Coursey. LA boilers on oneal or perkins usually has them also.

There are also customers who complain just in hopes to eat for free....

This too. Most restaurants usually comp it when they mention something was bad about the meal. And it is even funnier when they eat the whole meal even though it wasn't good enough.

Cat - some customers are rude & unhappy NO MATTER WHAT. These people do not deserve the politeness they DO get, paying or not. If you want to be treated well, be kind, fair, and pleasant. If you're a dick, I don't feel bad that someone who is waiting on you is a dick back.

I agree. Some people just demand way too much and their expectations are way too high and they will act ridiculous because of that. They almost act like children. Speaking from experience here.

Run along now and go back to watching Anderson or Friends or whatever.

Natural Seepage? What is that supposed to mean?
Why would sand berms be bad? And how would it cause more coastal erosion?

The only way for the coast to build up would be from the river's sand. Building berms will not mess with the sand because the sand comes from within the river and not from the gulf. It might change tides for inside water and the way the tides work but nothing will good will come from outside waters in the way of building the coast. If anything the Berms may help collect sand from going out and washing away into the deeper gulf. That is how the delta was formed in the first place. By filling in shallow waters with river sand.

Got some boiled medium crabs at Off the Hook that were really tasty. Think they even have some all you can eat crab specials going on in the evenings also. Haven't found any number one's yet. All the local seafood places say they are too expensive right now.

found some #1 selects here in Laffy boiled Sinday and they were superb!!!

Were they expensive?
I've eaten there at least 5 times and the food and service has been good every time. The service there is better than a majority of the places in Baton Rouge in my opinion.

It's not near campus but Off the Hook has a pretty good roast beef and good poboys. It's New Orleans style. Near campus I'm not too sure. Will have to get over and try Bear's. Heard good things about their roast beef.

Acme is close to campus. Might want to try them.
