What Would It Take for Crowton to Regain His '07 Magic?

Just wishful thinking or is there real hope?

Finish in the top 100 offenses.

I think there is real hope. Though I was frustrated with the play calling through out the season and really angry after the Capitol One Bowl I've tried to look at all sides of it. I really don't think the man has forgotten how to coach. I just think he needs a more defined, focused offense.
I think this year we should see much more improvement. Jefferson at the helm knows what needs to be done. You have great talent and experience in the backfield and at the reciever position. I think the offense should be much more efficient and smooth this season.
Or at least...I hope.

He is going to have to figure out his 1st down play. Cant run Charles Scott up the middle any more, might have to settle with his messed up option

07 Magic? we were just as predictable then, just had a experienced qb... i mean really in the overtime vs Kentucky how many of yall expected scott up the middle in 4th down?

First off, the option to the short side of the field needs to die.
Second thing, we need an o-line. That would create some semblance of a run game which in turn will help Jefferson.
Finally, Crowton's situational playcalling needs to improve. See final series in Ole Miss and Penn State games.

Hopefully Billy Gonzales and Frank Wilson because if not we are screwed

Do we really have that much experience in the backfield and at receiver? Tolliver would be the only one with real tested experience in my opinion.

the OC is limited by what is practiced.
I take heart in the news of tough-love intended to improve the running game.
Pray that someone shows up as FB.

RR played a good bit last year, especially towards the end of the season.

Worle will be here in the fall. D.Allen,I still question, but feel Worle has the heart for the position.

Whether or not Crowton and our O become effective in '10 is TBD (hence the thread).
But to take a single play (last play against UK) and judge the entire season by it is as flawed as our O was last year.
Recall this: 1) we had a new QB (who played hurt much of the season), new receivers (less Doucet who was hurt for several games), and three new coaches on the O side and 2) other than the SECCG (which was without Flynn), 27 pts was the least we scored in regulation.
Our O basically toyed with VT (Foster), AU (Muschamp), Saban, and tOSU that year.

Imagination, a Sean Payton-like playbook, unpredictable play-calling.

I can go back on many instances before a play a be able to tell what it was. Not just a single play from the UK game.
We also were experienced at almost every position and deep at every position. Our OL and DL dominated people. Defense created opportunities for the offense.
People have learned Crowtons offense and it isnt effective to the extent it was in 07. And losing a bunch of experience and depth at positions has hurt his offense.
Hes more of a gambler, if he calls some WR Screen across the middle at the end of the game and it works, hes a genius, if it doesnt work well we want him fired.

quote:I agree. Everyone wants to be so negative and skeptical but I really beluve we can have a great O next year.

He played some but gained no experience as a consistent "go to" guy. That will come this year. That being said, I think he will do great and this fact really doesn't matter.

An offensive line that can block and a quarterback that doesn't take 17 seconds to find an open receiver. I really thought JJ would develop more as the season went on but he never did. From the Washington game to the bowl game, he never fully developed the ability to see the entire field.

5th year senior QB & an outstanding offensive line would be good starts.

our offense toyed with Auburn and Alabama?
LSU beat Auburn 30-24
where LSU was trailing 17-7 at half, and won on a final play?
LSU beat Alabama 41-34
where LSU was trailing 20-17 at half, and game was ended by the defense not the offense really?
