after watching the combine, it seems alot harder to run 4.4 fourties, than many recruiting sites boast.( i mean c'mon, we here on this board all the time about how so many recruits are sub 4.5)

Are all of the recruits sub 4.5 fourties just because of poor timing techniques and reporting b.s., or do these guys just bulk up and loose alot of their speed after highschool?

So you don't think Sam Montgomery runs a 4.4?

These high school kids are way lighter than these guys. I had no idea Golden Tate would run a 4.37 that's redonkulous.

Most of the time rivals and scout recruiting profiles have unofficial hand timed 40's. The combine 40's are electronic. Typically hand timed 40's tend to be .1-.2 faster than a electronically timed 40's. Thus, a 4.4 on Rivals (unless it's an official electronic time from a Nike event) is probably more like a 4.5 or 4.6.

THe board has been ghey for Trindon only for his 40. It's rediculous that this guy is gonna put his Olympics in jeapordy to do an epic fail in teh NFL.

I turned the combine on last night for 1 minute and saw a TE run a 4.4! Who cares if Trindon runs a 4.2 flat, he would only beat that guy by a lean! It's stupid for him to run and I said it last week. All that did was show there were many bigger "football" guys that had his speed.

Holiday ran an official 4.34. I don't know why people keep saying he ran a 4.2

Because he did. Just not when it counted.

Recruit 40 times are an outright lie. Very few people actually run sub 4.5 40's.

keep in mind that they are NOT running on a track like some of these sub-4.5 times are. It makes a difference when you are talking tenths of a second.
The "track" at the combines are line a playing surface.
Trindon has great take-off speed out of the blocks. What kills him in the 100 is he doesn't have the upper body strength and he has to use WAY more energy b/c of his stride. Dude is AMAZING at what he can do given his "shortcomings".

The surface they run on can play a huge factor in these times.

Almost every year scout has a camp in Atlanta that is known for having a veryyyy slow track. The best times are typically in the mid 4.5 range, no matter the position. A lot of very fast people put up 4.6s and 4.7s there.

You have to remember a lot of these reported times are personal bests and not the best out of two like the conditions of a combine 40.

Sure it might be slightly deceitful, but I bet a lot of these kids that can run consistently in the 4.5 range could squeeze out a 4.4 or lower on their best day with perfect conditions.
