It's rather sad that so few attend their games with all the history that program has. The neighborhood is rather sketchy for many for baseball. Long Beach State, Pepperdine and Fullerton outdraw SC by a large margin.

In the Pac 10, that's a 'big game'.

I want a link on this. No fricking way 150 people showed.
More people showed at my high school's season opener.

Does USC not care about their baseball program anymore? Is it just not glamorous enough a sport for people in LA to get excited for? They have 12 national championships for god sakes!!

We averaged 2,759 people opening weekend against Nicholls State

There are two Major League Baseball teams within
half an hour of USC's campus.
I used to go to games as a kid at Dedeaux Field, and even then, at what was pretty much the apex of USC's college baseball success, there weren't huge crowds.
With Chad Kreuter in charge of the program, there isn't a whole lot to get excited about.

Oregon State sells out most of their games.

What's the attendance though? 2,000 +/- ?
And USC had only 150? really?
Bandwagon much Trojans?

The Beavs don't have to compete with the Angels and the Doyers. Not to mention there are plenty of other distractions in SoCal. And Oregon State is actually pretty good at baseball.
That said, I wish more of the students would support the baseball team at SC.

I wouldn't be surprised if the water polo team drew 4 or 5 times better than the baseball team does

bullshite excuse blaming major leagues. It's a college pride thing. Now that LA doesn't have NFL football, any excuses for not routinely filling up the LA Coliseum? That's right.
Rice draws pretty well in baseball, don't they? I guess they don't have a major league market (in reality, the Astros are more like a Trip.-A team, but still).
Arizona State? DBacks?

There's literally 0 hype for baseball here. I best 99% of campus doesn't know the season has started and can't name one person on the team. There's simply no interest at all

Then that's the answer. It has nothing to do with pro teams. It has to do with a lack of interest. And that lack of interest is not because the pro teams suck it up.

I never said it was. I love college baseball but unfortunitly, it's probably about the 6th or 7th most popular sport here

Other factors, IMHO: Expense. If I am not mistaken, baseball doesn't give players a full ride. Tuition at USC is much more expensive than at other traditional baseball powers (Long Beach, Fullerton, Irvine, etc) in the area. The academic requirements at some of those institutions are a bit less rigorous as well.
Lack of promotion. USC baseball needs its own Pete Carroll type to put some life into the program and put Joe fan's butt in the seats.

Good to know that TD is still concerned with SC, even when the baseball team is at their shittiest.

Have you failed to notice the array of topics on the MSB? I actually think it's a pretty interesting topic considering the tremendous history of the USC baseball program.
