If the new coach didn't inherit a Cadillac, and turn it into a broken down Bonneville in that time span.

Yes because we won't go 4-1 with a NC with our current coach. We would be lucky just to go 4-1 in the SEC over a 5 game stretch.

I see what you're doing there...

I think the top tier programs (LSU, USC, TEX, FLA, ALA, OU, OSU) all have 2 and 3 year windows of time to compete for a MNC, then it's 2-3 years of retooling (while likely staying in the Top 25), and then back at it. LSU seems to be ending year 2 of that retooling period...which is fine by me.

Watch Alabama retool this upcoming season. They have a real good chance to go back to back.

OK- You tell me which team legitimately competed for a NC for more than 2 or 3 years in a row. And don't tell me USC.

it was actually more like a 5-6 win team, but some of you just looked at the wins and were happy. The QB position regressed as the year went a long, and at the end of the year the team struggled to beat lesser teams like Ole Miss and Troy, and even looked sluggish against Vandy.

Why leave out USC, they were title contenders every year from 2003-2008.

None of the other powers you mentioned have had back to back 4 loss seasons either.

OU went to the 03 and 04 title games, they had a bad year in 05, they won the Big 12 in 06 and were title contenders in 07 and 08.

Florida had one down year after winning 06.

I hope you guys are right, I just don't see anything to make me think this team will be any better than a 9-4 type team next year and down the line with this coaching staff.

Year 2 of their window. 2007 they lost 4 games. FOUR (3 before November). The transition to Tebow cost them a year. And he is celebrated by ESPN, et al, as the best college football player ever.
