yes, tiger fans, LSU-Notre Dame was a crappy match up in the grand scheme of things
Yet is was probably one of the more watched/attended Sugar Bowls in the decade (minus any BCS Championship game played there)

the term "bandwagon" cannot be applied to any tiger fan there .. that will be a bastion of true tiger fans in orlando .. if my mom wasn't sick, i would be going .. this is the first bowl that i have missed since i started following LSU football .. my dad took me to the 1983 orange bowl .. and i never missed one after that until now ..

on a national scale .. not locally ... it was an epic mismatch that the rest of country laughed at .. notre dame didn't belong there .. and the place was packed because people were getting tickets for $20 and $30 outside ..

This is beyond pathetically bad. People knew that LSU wasn't going to a BCS bowl at the time they requested tickets. The Capital One Bowl is the best LSU could've hoped for. It's the best of the non-BCS bowls, on New Year's Day, and in a city with lots to do. If LSU doesn't bring at least 20-25K fans, then I wouldn't be surprised if the Capital One folks look elsewhere next time LSU is in the mix. All they care about is revenue and ticket sales. If LSU fans don't seem to care unless the team is BCS bound, then send their asses to the Pappa John Bowl or some shite. LSU's fans used to be the standard against all other college football fans are measured, but not any more.

We planned a Disney trip last year when it looked like LSU would either go to the CapOne or the Outback. We ordered tickets through LSU for both. Then we lost to Ole Miss and Arkansas and was sent to Atlanta. Disney was fun, though.

Sadly enough, I truly believe a lot of LSU fans have adopted the "BCS bowl or bust" attitude.

LSU did sell out its allotment. So, that's "something." Hell, Florida is going to a BCS bowl and didn't come close to selling out theirs.
I seriously doubt anyone ordered CapOne tickets with the intent to make a profit off of them. I think people really intended to go, but things (the economy mainly) came up.
But, people will learn and will stop buying tickets through the athletic department in the future. Why buy for face when you can get much better seats for less than half of face in the open market? And, I don't think this will be only an LSU thing. Athletic departments (and bowl cities) will see this phenomenon in the future.
This also might be a good thing for those of us who aren't in the Top 100 of TAF rankings. Perhaps LSU will alter its method of distributing away and bowl tickets to encourage people to still donate and buy bowl tickets. The current "lottery" is a joke. Back in 2003 when they put over 2,000 tickets in the lottery, you had a chance. Now, with less than 400 typically, you might as well buy a freakin lottery ticket.
And, this might be the impetus to go to the 8 team playoff, i.e., people will pay BIG bucks to go to the other BCS games if their team has a shot to go to the BCS NC game.

seriously .. go out to the stadium about 8AM on gameday .. you will be given tickets .. i promise ... we had four people that decided to come with us for the 2005 cap one bowl at the last minute ... all four got tickets together for $50 total !
I may do this, I want to go and hate my family, so this may work out.

It's the airfare that prevents us from going. Way too steep out of Shreveport. We'd have to get a loan.
I imagine it's similar for lots of folks.
Hope those of you who are going have a blast!

and of all the crappy sugar bowl matchups that NOLA has been stuck with since the BCS went to the plus one system .. this is CLEARLY the best one of them ... yes, tiger fans, LSU-Notre Dame was a crappy match up in the grand scheme of things
ok whatever.

Have a few friends in the same situation. It cost an arm and a leg to fly out of BR or Laf. It seemed the SW flights out of N.O booked up very quickly.

I have a friend who had been a SB season ticket holder for years until they screwed him in 2007 by not letting him buy his seat for the BCSNC game. They wouldn't explain their refusal, they just told him that he had to purchase the "regular" Sugar Bowl ticket and wouldn't be allowed to purchase the NC game, after he had been a season ticket holder for about 7 years. He dropped it that year. And, he's glad he did.
Plus one. That was a bonus for them that year, they sold out two games. But you are correct it might bite them in the arse long term, paying three years for that fourth year was a good deal, losing the right to the BCSNC makes the annual ticket less desirable particularly when you get crappy match ups that make the tickets tough to unload.

I'll gladly take two off your hands at face value if you buy my plane ticket to Orlando :)

Its a combination of:
- Shitty attitude of our fanbase now...(\"BCS Bowl or Bust mentality\")
- Economy
- Seattle Trip
and probably the biggest reason...

Further, I think you'll see people shying away from purchasing their tickets through LSU in the future. LSU is all about taking care of the fat cats with respect to both allocation and seating assignments. So, most people will just forego that crap (and their yearly donations) when they can come out MUCH better financially by just buying their tickets after the bowl games are announced. i think you'll see people just checking the BCS NC game box and nothing else. I believe all those years of catering to fat cats will and reducing the lottery for away and bowl games is going to come back to haunt LSU in the future.
That prognostication seems fairly unlikely to come true. Fans can't simply choose to forego their yearly donations. Under the current regime, you have to make an annual Tradition Fund/TAF donation in order to own season tickets. Unless fans want to relinquish their season tickets, they have to continue to make yearly donations. Moreover, the entire reason one becomes a so-called "fat cat" in the first instance is so that he or she can obtain tickets to premium games like the national championship. Tickets to such premium games will continue to be allotted to affluent patrons, thereby preserving the incentive to contribute large sums of money to the LSU AD.

....Guys, LSU's alotment was 12,000 tickets.
LSU sold 14,500 as of one week ago (2,500 more than they were required to sell).
Last year, UGA which is much closer to Orlando sold 12,000. Michigan State sold less than that.
Auburn which is much closer to central Florida sold 13,000 tickets for this year's Outback Bowl.
I think the Capital One Bowl is pleased with the LSU ticket sales.

and to add to it .. and i know there's really not a solution to it .. but, the gap from the end of the season to the bowl games is insanely long ... we played arkansas on november 28th .. that was already almost four weeks ago and there's still a week and a half to go until the game ... even in a season with a positive ending (which this one is not) .. unless it is for all the marble .. the excitement gets lost and watered-down durng a five week lull ..
i have often wondered if the college football season doesn't need to be spread a little deeper into december and maybe a two or three week lapse until the bowl games .. an extra open date or two wouldn't kill anyone ..
