a few weeks ago on Jones Creek? I bought several packs of ribeyes and a whole filet. I cut up the filet and vaccum sealed all the steaks.

I've grilled some of the ribeyes & filets and have been extremely disappointed with the quality so far. I guess that's why they were so cheap. I'll stick to buying meat from Winn Dixie in the future.

yep, same here, I did not load up but did try some.
I was disapointed in the steaks as well. But should have known better. They are clearly marked "Select grade"

Get what you pay for.

Everyone in Gonzales raves over how good Ralph's meat is, I have never been impressed, except the time they had Prime ribeyes marked at 4.99/pound, but even at that they had marinated them in an Itallian dressing based stuff, I mean come on marinating Prime?

That should be a crime. I had some prime ribeye this weekend that we got from a farmer in Iowa. Just put salt and pepper on them and tossed on the grill. Those steaks would melt in your mouth.

I asked my mom about a month ago to pick up some ribeyes from Ralph's and I would grill them for her and my dad.

She did and they were like leather. Good thing I had extra steaks from Sam's that I ended up throwing on the grill.

the one on jones creek has never been awesome, and some of their deli food is just nasty. i will never ever get one their smoked chickens again..they advertise on jordy hultberg's show in the morning that ralph's deli was voted as a "Top 10 lunch restaurant in Baton Rouge"...that is complete bullshite.

i will say that other than their deli, that i do like Ralph's. friendly people and just the right sized store.

Basa is MUCH better tasting than any domestic catfish. I understand the need to support local farmers but the price of domestic is at least 25% higher and the quality just isn't there.

Fair enough but I guarantee you in a blind taste test more Americans would choose the Basa. Just Sayin.

maybe so, i just like what i grew up on, which in all fairness was wild caught catfish and not farm raised, but to me farm raised catfish is closer to wild than Bassa, on a side note I hope the regulatory agencies would mandate that a place must identify what they are serving and country of orgin similar to when buying raw seafood, and picadilly saying they are serving southern fried fish instead of fried catfish just aint enough for me, they should have to say "southern fried bassa, country of orgin China"

Wrong. While I prefer wild catfish a farm raised Mississippi catfish is much better tasting and still cheap. Plus not only am I supporting domestic (at the same cost as import) I know where it comes from.

Basa is in the same league as Tilapia both aquaculture from Asia and both dangerous.

Vietnamese Aquaculture

For safety's sake I would not eat any imported seafood. Plus we do need to support our local fisheries, especially in Louisiana. Most of the people that will buy foreign fish are the same ones that scream about Chinese crawfish.

still love watching the shrimpers protesting about imported shrimp.. driving up in Toyotas....

same for a crawfisherman that was interviewed about 10 years ago. complaining about chinese crawfish - toyota truck - motor on boat yamaha....

what's good for the goose is good for the gander..

I just wanna know WHAT I am eating and WHERE it came from.

Well regardless of what motors or trucks they buy I buy Louisiana crawfish because they are the best. Same as Louisiana oysters, crabs and gulf shrimp. If I pay a little more it is worth it. Why pay less for something that taste less?

I don't do any imported seafood because it is just too risky. Not that I haven't had it before or probably eat it in restaurants today but if I can control the situation I don't do it.
