Coach Miles vs. Meyer and Saban

I simply want to say how much I and about 400 other rabid LSU fans enjoy LSU football from as far away as Kansas City, Mo. We gather together for every game and live and die with the Tigers. Don't know if all of you Tiger fans realize the the LSU nation extends so far. All of our main concerns center around how to keep or elevate LSU football back to ELITE status. The main problem : it is obvious that Miles can get the talent necessary, but can he improve it and coach it to the status of Meyer and Saban ? Number 2, who to replace him ? Who is a coach with the proven track record to beat these two ? We could go in reverse by ridding ourselves of him. ( like Nebraska after they fired Solich after a 9-3 season) Lsu Tiger nation should simply rally around Miles and hope for the best recruits we can get. We just have to face the awful reality that we must play against the 2 best coaches in the nation every YEAR. A b****h of a postion to be in. Just want all of you great Tiger fans to know that many LSU fans exist here in KC and we are as down as you are we are not in the SEC Championship Sat. Very sad. LSU will rise again next year.

Miles isn't going anywhere anytime soon.

Great point. Solich was a tremendous coach. Who's he coaching now? What's his overall record the last 5 years?

Good point. I'm not in favor of replacing Miles just for the sake of replacing Miles. There would have to be a very real opportunity to get a top-notch coach (e.g. Brian Kelly?) to replace him before I would be on board.

Is this a rhetorical question? Because he's at Ohio and his record is 32-29 with two 9 win seasons (potentially can have a 10 win season this year).

Yes we are aware of the power of cable tv...

Well-stated, all.
I think any LSU fan who thinks that LSU can, or should win the SEC West and SEC every year is kidding themselves. No, the fans should not accept second-place status, that isn't what I'm saying. I'm saying, I think the best we can hope for, with ANY good coach here (and Miles is a good, not a great coach) is to be competitive year in and year out, and have those "special" years every few years or so when the stars align, key players stay healthy through the year, and LSU has more experience at key positions like QB, than do either AL or FL. I don't think Saban or Meyer are "unbeatable" and I think they are subject to the same ebbs and flows (injuries, graduation of key players and breaking in new QBs, etc.) as any other coach. Miles has won an NC here at LSU. Heck, look at Mark Richt at GA ... last year was "his year" to win all the marbles, with Stafford and Moreno, etc., and he couldn't do it. Meyer has two NCs and may win a 3rd this year ... Mr Saban has not won ANYTHING (yet) at AL, by way of a national championship ... much as the pathetic AL fan base might want to "claim" LSU's 2003 national championship as "theirs."
I agree, support Miles and the team.

Excellent. So he's coaching at the powerhouse of Ohio and is barely above .500 in 5 seasons and has only 2 winning seasons (including this season that you mentioned).
Maybe Nebraska's mistake wasn't firing Solich, but instead hiring Callahan?

Nebraska is doing fine without Coach Solich. He coaches the Ohio Bobcats, and, in his five seasons there, he has compiled a 32-29 record.
I believe that Nebraska's decision to part ways has been vindicated.

I think everyone agrees on this,
except, WE ARE NOT playing at the competitive level we should be with the classes we have had...
our TALENT is not being developed accordingly

Is his record there better than his predecessor? Yes. He did have a 6-6 season in there, so only two losing seasons. And he has a better winning percentage, in one less season than the coach (Jim Grobe) before that too. Hasn't Grobe done some pretty good things at Wake Forest?

Hiring Callahan, in hindsight, was a definite mistake. Solich is not a bad coach at all.

This.
The sheer volume of people who have resigned themselves to embracing mediocrity is really troubling and surprising. Once one has tasted victory and seen what a well coached team looks like, you would think that this memory would last longer than it has.

My overall impression since the Ole Miss game is that most LSU fans and the powers that be are happy to be 3rd best team in the conference as a somewhat permanent place for LSU in the SEC.

I was simply saying look what happenend at Nebraska in the Callahan years. Opps. Took THE powerhouse of all of football and soon they were getting 49 pts hung on them in one half by the GAY-U Chickenhawks. Whoever is in charge has to be very careful.

True.

Clearly the important mistake.

Not bad doesn't mean he shouldn't have been fired from Nebraska.
If it's Solich or Callahan. Keep Solich. I will agree with that.

First second getting paid 3+ million a year will get you scorned when you pull an ole ms situation. this is not his first time, i sincerely hope he will surround himself with the right personnel because i think his ethical peronality well keep us in the elite statue

This is not even close to being an true

Give me a freaking break. Miles record while at LSU is of "Elite" status. Don't give me this "he won with Saban's" recruits junk. Saban is winning with Shula's recruits right now. All of his 5th yr Sr.'s, Sr.'s, and Red-shirt Jr.s are all Shula recruits. The only reason LSU fans don't like Miles is because he's not Saban. If Saban was at LSU the past 2 years with the same records nobody would be saying the program was in decline. This is really getting ridiculous.
And by the way Nebraska really tore it up after Solich was fired, they have sucked ever since. Including this year. Their division is a joke and they are going to get smoked by Texas.

I agree. Big 12 North is awful and Huskers are bad. Don't count your hatches before they chick. Much bigger upsets have happenend than if Nebraska were to beat Texass. The big question is, WHO to replace Miles ? This is the crux and vexing situation faced by the faithful. Things could get much worse as I was trying to point out by the Nebraska comparison.
