It had never happened before in the history of college football and will probably never happen again.

Naah, that's not a fluke

If Saban wins a NC this year, he will be the first to do so at 2 different schools (at least in the modern era) would that be a fluke?

I have concerns over Les and the direction of the program, but it is really sad and pathetic, that LSU fans denigrate an LSU NC because Les Miles was the coach. What a losers mentality.

This is a better comparison than Coker. Both Miles and Zook could recruit but both got out coached in many games, neither terrible neither great.

Zook-no SEC championships
no NC

There is no comparison Les Miles is light years ahead of Zook

do believe he did have a 2 loss season just like lsu did, come on you know it was a fluke we ended up in the NC that year

Just as big a fluke as it was in 2003.

Miles is an average coach, a bad judge of coaching ability, a poor game manager, a nice guy and a very good recruiter.

This was an earlier post, and I think the poster hit the nail on the head.

LSU was the best team in 2007. Were they lucky to get in due to a late season loss and 2 loss year? yes. but they deserved it. The only "fluke" is how ohio st gets into a bcs game every year and gets manhandled.

So none of you Miles lovers have a problem that our team is only as good as out cordinators not our head coach? Saban as been through 3 OC his teams still do well, but if one of our Cord, becomes a bad hire then we suck, D last year, O this year, A good cord will end up with a HC job so the future of the program is wether or not Les can hire a good Cord or bad one every few years??? Id rather a head coach who can take over when things go bad instead of waiting to the end of the season to try and hire someone to do the job he cant

Saying Miles is better than Ron Zook doesn't mean people love him. It just means they have a brain.

Miles and Zook is a weak comparison. If Miles is like any other coach in college football, it would be Mack Brown, and I've said that for the last 2-3 years.

Both:
1. Are nice, approachable men and are seen as "good guys" in the coaching profession.
2. Are strong recruiters
3. Are considered to be "player's coaches"
4. Are Conference and National Championship winners
5. Are prone to being outcoached at any time by a good coaching staff, and will usually be outcoached by a great coach.
6. Heavily depend on their staff to tip the balance in their favor because they aren't necessarily capable of doing it.
7. Even more heavily depend on their ability to recruit to do the same.
8. Have tried the Co-Coordinator experiment, only to see it fail.
9. Have had more than one season where their team was seen as underachieving.
10. Are often seen by their fanbases as "too conservative."
11. Have made player (especially QB) decisions that have been sharply criticised.
12. Have a fluctuating group of fans that are sharply critical of them. Brown's is low right now and Miles's high, but it was much the opposite 2-3 years ago.
13. Are capable of running a championship winning program if recruiting and the staff are just right.
14. Are capable of badly underachieving any time they aren't.
15. Have had discipline and execution issues on several of their teams.

Apples to apples, I do think Brown is smarter, and a little better than Miles, but he is also a lot more passive, especially in recruiting, which hurts him. IMHO there are too many parallels to deny here.
Well said, and well thought out. I tend to agree on most points. With Miles, we can probably expect a SECC about every 5 years and a NC about every 8-10 years, if the stars align just right.
