I actually love that uniform combination.
Does anyone have a picture of the purple pants we wore at Kentucky ?

Yeah Spurrier was being his normal dick self and wouldn't let LSU wear white on the road or something, so we went with yellow.
the road team has to allow the Home team to wear white, not the home teams choice. I think we had to wear purple at home for Vandy when Dinardo was here at some point.

After we defeated the then #1 Gators in '97 our fans rushed the field and apparently this upset Coach Spurrier. So in response for his agreement to let us wear white for the next home game against them (presumably in '99) we would have to permit the Gators to wear white at the Swamp in '98.
In response, DiNardo decided to have us wear the most hideous eyesore of dark uniforms.
As for the game itself it was probably the only high-point of Tepper's LSU coaching career. Halftime score was 10-6 Tigers. I don't readily recall the Booker int but do recall Joe Wesley dropping a sure pick-six. Remember thinking how we could've used Faneca that game.
I'm ok with Spurrier's competitiveness. I think he ran a clean program and I think the NFL both mellowed and matured him. But white jerseys at home was a long-standing LSU tradition whereas UF (to my knowledge) has no motivation for the same. This was more of a case of Spurrier being 'I'm bigger than your tradition.' Have nothing against USCe but enjoy seeing Spurrier getting pummeled/embarrassed - how sweet was Colt David's TD run?

This is correct. Booker caught the ball, the drop was on another play.
Apparently my memory sucks too.

Not a good photo, but it's the best that I can find (I noticed that they mislabeled the LSU quarterback in the pic...

Almost. It was the 96 Vandy game, and they wouldn't allow us to wear white, as they were still pissed at DiNardo for breaking his contract to come to LSU. We wore gold jerseys, and the crowd unlike now cooperated with a request to wear gold shirts, although it rained and the ponchos etc kind of messed up the visual.

I had heard that the SEC has rules about jerseys that supersedes the NCAA in SEC matchups, that the home team in SEC vs. SEC games gets to choose. I remember we were gonna have a "white-out" in that game, and that a few days after news spread about Spurrier not allowing us to wear white, the SEC rule was declared to give us the choice as the home team, but it could have been faulty info.

SPQR,
Is it in color? Can we get a link or copy of this vid? There's been a lot of debate about the history of LSU colors lately and this would be helpful.

Why didn't those Gold Jerseys have strips on the sleeves?
That would have looked way better. The white numbers for the Indy bowl was a FAIL!

true. Not one. Lost at ND by 3 I think, UGA by 1, at Ole Miss in OT (after making a unreal comeback in the 4th) and by 6 to bama at home.
It was over for GD after that year

We had a good offense, but our defense was horrific.

That ND game was a classic. If I remember correctly, ND and Faulk had back to back KO returns for TDs. The Bama game is still one of my worst nightmares. LSU was up 16-7 with 2:20 remaining, and Bama hit a big play for a TD, then recovered an onsides kick. Then Robert Davis tipped a pass to a receiver for the go ahead TD. We still even got the ball back after that, but Tyler threw an INT to seal it for Bama.

quote:Yep, linebacker #7...shite I can't remember his name, but I remember him being interviewed the next day and he said that coach told him he would have a chance to return an interception for a TD. Turns out Tepper was right on that one. Too bad he dropped it. LSU was in that game and could have won, which is pretty remarkable for the way that team ended up.

I remember hearing that Tepper was actually such a good strategist that he was almost TOO good--his players supposedly had difficulty being able to keep up with him and carry out his orders.
