bert id be willing to bet anything that not many true sophmore qb check out of plays called by the oc.
Look at McElroy with Al Bama (and don't make excuses for months being the difference in ages?) And like Bert said, 8 can't block 5; a QB has to move out to the pocket and hit other open receivers that are wide open (these don't even get seen by JJ)
Now, please understand ... I don't know the kid personally and I don't care about color of of our QB skin. I probably got upset last season at one point and put down JL. I didn't throw him under the bus, his white H.C. and staff did. It is in the football grey matter that makes the real difference. Of the few interceptions JJ threw, there was a possibility with the team JL lead into battle that JJ could have easily thrown as many 6 picks. In fact this season, about half of the int. that JJ threw, half of those looked at one point to be possibly returned for 6 the other way.

i was on here defending j lee. And im white so i dont know where u are tryin to go with this. And jj has played far better than lee. If lee had this running game and and thid crappy o line he wouldve been destroyed. Didnt we see what happened to lee with all that to deal with. 7/21

So in the LA Tech with JL's low sense of self-esteem; JJ being the QB in that game, he and LSU would have destroyed LA Tech?

Lots of supposition here. First, McElroy has been in the system (thus practiced) much more than JJ. Or did you forget the Mc's a senior? As for the whole "5 can't block 8" shite, let's not forget that some of these blitzes are disguised, our other backs in the backfield have been pretty poor this year at pass-blocking, and that offensive playcalling trumps blitzes more than anything else. Does JJ miss open receivers? Sure. Guess what? So does everyone else. The numbers simply DO NOT bear out the theory that JJ misses WR's.

I'm not sayin he is above criticism but everybody wants to blame him for our offensive ranking and he is all we've had on o all yr.
Sounds like what the JJ supporters were saying about JL...disregarding dropped passes or the D with which he played
As of right now, WE DO NOT HAVE A GREAT QB
..end of story.
As to whether ANY of the QBs we have will become great, we have to wait until the future occurs to know for sure...
of course, I am sure that many will cast their FIRM and SELF-RIGHTEOUS FUTURISTIC VISION as if it was FACT.

LSU doesn't need a great QB. They need a sound QB, which JJ has shown flashes of despite the areas he needs to improve upon.
But many of our past QB's (whether they were great or not is for another debate) didn't have to deal with many of the problems the offense has had to deal with this year.

A good QB makes an average offensive line look good
A good Offensive Line makes an average QB look good
A average QB and an Average Offensive Line make neither look good.
Good thing there is still room for Jefferson to grow and mature because next year's offensive line probably will not be any better. They will be less experienced and losing 2 more players will hurt.
I have said it MANY MANY times 2011 is going to be LSU's year. Everything lines up perfect as many talented underclassmen will have 2/3 years starting experience by then. Our defensive/offensive/LB/secondary/wide receivers will be filled with juniors/seniors who each have multiple years of starting experience. There will be some green areas but not like it will ne next year.

hmmm. offense average 5 points less per game this year than last so what's your point.
I see the running game can disappear for the rest of the century and it will always be about QB for some fans. He was the offense when we usually would have no rushing yards or rushing TDs as a Sophomore in the SEC. 9-3 is pretty darn remarkable considering we had two senior running backs that could not get on track all year running or scoring.

You ever thought that maybe we don't have a running game b/c no one is afraid of our QB's passing. he's inaccaurate, yes i said that and don't give me his completion %, he rarely puts in the vicinity of the chest.
if you were watching the game at the end, he threw a ball to Peterson i think that was very high and peterson barely got his hands on it and it was almost picked off, that would have been ball game. the ball he threw at lafell when he got hurt was on the ground. he seemed to overthrow every pass in the 1st half of the ole miss game. he's terrible at throwing the ball deep. why would anyone be afraid of his passing, you know if you get to him he will take the sack b/c he's afraid to throw a pick and he has no pocket awareness or escape ability.

And what about the rest of the ints thrown by Lee? They are all turnovers whether it's a pick 6 or not. The fact is they were not returned for pick sixes and he made an effort to prevent the defender from scoring on those. His turnover ratio was much lower which is part of the puzzle.

JL in 2008 53.2 CMP% 13 TDs 16 INTs 115.7 Rating
JJ in 2009 62.1 CMP% 16 TDs 6 INTs 137.8 Rating
Yeah, I can see how the numbers are virtually the same!?

Exactly. JR was a very smart qb. Before I pass judgment on his pro career he'll have to play for a functional franchise. The Raiders are in disarray.

J.J. will be a very good college qb. He is still learning.
Well at this point he's started more games than Matt Flynn. His progress has been slow and he is a large part of the reason our offense is so poor this year.
Next year there is no doubt he'll get the first chance to lead the offense. If he can't get it done I suspect you'll see Chris Garret. If he can get it done then we'll have a productive uppperclassman qb and that is what wins championships.

The problem is not JJ, and it never has been. JJ has the tools to be a great LSU quarterback, and i believe that he will progress to be very good. The problem is that Gary Crowton does not put JJ in a situation to be successful. Think about it... LSU has (had) spectacular running backs before they got hurt, and Crowton didn't use them. You can't be a 1-dimesional offense with a 19 yr-old qb. Crowton sucks at running this offense. Throwing 37 times a game and running 14 times is not a great way 2 call an offense in the SEC. JJ is doing everything he can, and hes doing a damn good job. Crowton's the dumbass, and he needs to go.

well i do belive jj (healthy) wouldve had a better game than j lee. And people are calling jj dumb and ignorant and he couldnt start at any other school is just ignorant. He has a ways to go to be all sec but he has put up flynn type numbers with no running game and horrible pass protection. JJ is far from a great qb in my eyes but he is also far from being horrible or a wimp like you said.

Then why was he not highly recruited?

I agree that you beleive that, but thus far the evidence is to the contrary. He is progressing some, but not by any means quickly.
You want to blame GC for Jefferson's performance. Last year everyone was quick to lay JLee's struggles on JLee. Realize that Les and GC sent JLee out there to make upper classman type throws and more often that not he was successful. So, were JLee's troubles a result of being mismanaged?
GC was the OC for the Matt Flynn led offense that was the best in LSU history. Don't forget that.
Also, look at the end of the ARK game. It was identical to the end of the OM game, w/ the exception of S Ridley being given the out of bounds and clock stoppage. That was a very questionable call. W/o that call we are discussing this week why JJ had not learned not to take a sack after the OM debacle.
That said, I sure hope you are right about JJ's progress next year as our best chance for a championship is w/ an experienced Jr. QB. I'll be pulling for him. But, if he does not show the improvement that you are expecting, Chris Garret is likely to play.
