In today's Orlando Sentinel talking about bowl possibilities

Under the Cap One bowl they say: "Ole Miss's loss this weekend may force the bowl to take LSU as the SEC representative." Wow! That tone makes it sound like they are going to be disappointed to have to pass on Ole Miss! The Orlando Slantinel at its best. They should be happy to get LSU. Why is that even a question since we are the only other team ranked besides UF and UA and have the better overall record?

I guess they wanted to pick the team that beat and pretty much dominated us.

well, I'd think that they'd be happier with the team whose fans travel well and spend more money... and that isn't Ol'Misses....

It just sounds like LSU is the only 3 loss team and is therefore the only realistic choice.

This makes no sense at all.

Change your panties, it was a joke. I do wonder, however, how LSU fans would feel if they beat Ole Miss, and the Cap 1 picked Ole Miss anyway.

State pretty much did what they wanted to us and 98 out of 100 times would have scored to win that game.

as posted elsewhere, i'd much rather the cotton bowl, esp. since the time changed from the 11AM start, and the drive is half as long, and i really want to visit Jerry World. Been to cap one and honestly, it isn't worth the drive. TIFWIW. I'd be in dallas tomorrow for the cotton, though.

it was a joke

Therefore, aren't they kind of forced to take LSU?

quote:yeah, in the same way the BCS title game will be forced to take the winner of the SEC title game. Or that the Sugar bowl is forced to take the loser. You don't hear the national media put it that way when in fact those bowls are delighted to take those teams even when in actuallity they are obligated to. It's just a stupid and insulting way to put. Maybe I'm too sensitive.

I can find a lot more nuggets in your history.
Your post looks like you could write for the Orlando paper.

Winning by two with the opponent ending up 1st and goal at the five but running out of time is not akin to domination. Head to head should and does count some in the bowl pecking order but it is typical to toss the stat aside when the loser of a particular game is ranked higher and in LSU's case over Mississippi, much higher. Polls, both man-made and otherwise, will always matter to the bowls.
