If We Insist on Staying With Jefferson...

FOR GOD's Sake and the Love of Mike and Peter, please put him in position to succeed.
1. We should be rolling him out of the pocket to throw on the run. He does this well and it eliminates one side of the field for him to read. HE can't read the whole field anyway and this will reduce his reads to 2 and get him in position to get more yards if he tucks it and runs.
2. More three step drops if he isn't rolling out. WE did this early with some success getting the ball out quick for 7-10 yard gains, then inexplicably went away from it.
3. Kill the Option play. It hasn't worked, isn't working, and will never work and wastes downs.
These three things will result in drastic improvement in Jefferson's play.

I know JJ can be somewhat successful rolling out. ALso know he most likely cannot be a pocket passer. I agree, the gameplan has to be changed to match his strengths.

agree 100% on the rolling out
more 10- 20 yd slants and zone gap routes
some misdirection on the running plays would be nice too

Jordan Jefferson is most successful when there isn't a D lineman putting pressure on him and there is a receiver running wide open down the field.

Those three things will also restore RHYTHM to the offense---something we haven't seen in a while.

I was telling a friend after the game that we need to employ the "Herb Tyler" playbook as far as rollout passes/out patterns.

Over the past few years anything that had success inexplicably went away. I guess Miles just wants to hold his cards close to his chest.

Good post, now what are you thinking putting it on the Rant to get lost with all the other bullshite?

That's sad, but true. He just isn't an SEC QB. He looks bad...I mean real bad. He is so limited it isn't funny. His only positive is his legs and that hasn't been a factor in any game.

almost everything i liked about JJ in the first three games has disappeared in the last two

He was very accurate early in the game when they went with the three step drops and got the ball out quick. The game is about 2 ticks too fast for him at this point in his progression as a starter. When you have him drop back 7 steps and attempt the read the whole field it really puts him at a disadvantage.
At this point he can't process the information fast enough and keep his eyes downfield when he sees the rush coming.
Our gameplan should geared toward eliminating the opportunities for him to be in that situation where he often collapses.

And just like the GT game. He set everything up with the option and his running. That has been negated because he can't throw from a drop or the shot-gun. If you can't do this, SEC defenses will kill you. There is no need to blitz since he isn't a threat to carve you up or find an open receiver.

doesn't the OC reading (or trying to)the defense from upstairs and calling in the play afterwards thwart any initiative to do this by the qb?
will he ever learn to read, if someone else is reading for him and not promoting the thought process?

Agreed. We need to put him in a position more often where he is a threat to the defense ---rollouts and three steps with the occasional dowfield throw set up by play action like the only catch lafell had in the game last week.

here's the amazing thing though.....
this seems like pretty easy adjustments to make and most anyone can see they need to be made? How in the frick is it possible we haven't done any of this? Why be so fricking stubborn?

That is the fundamentally frustrating thing about out struggles right now bilj. How can they not see it?
Make the game simpler for Jordan and let the talent around him do the heavy lifting. Its not that hard.
