16. LSU 2-0 Last Week: W, Vanderbilt 23-9

Why this is too high: The Tigers haven't shown anything yet to suggest that they're back to national title-level form. The offense continues to putter along, even though Washington and Vanderbilt are Washington and Vanderbilt, while the defense has hardly been dominant.

LSU has been fine, but nothing special.

Why this is too low: On talent and athleticism, the team should be better. At some point, the offensive line will show up and the defensive front will start to play like an LSU defensive front. At least that's the hope around Baton Rouge. Up next: Louisiana-Lafayette

Complete rankings:

1. Florida

If a poll isn't used in the BCS formula, it isn't important.

Any poll that doesn't have Houston in it is retarded.

So, OSU looks like a top 10 team by struggling against NAVY at HOME and LOSING at HOME against a true freshman QB run USC.. but LSU is no. 16

All the above being said, I believe LSU is playing like the 16th ranked team. Am I glad they're #7 in the IMPORTANT POLL? Sure! But we's best be shapin' up!

With the way some of the other top 10 teams have played, I say we are playing like a top ten team right now. Not NC caliber, but top ten.

TCU isn't anywhere in their top 25?

I declare it null and void.

NC caliber changes year to year - Top 10 teams quality and style change year to year.

Everyone claims (don't know if it is substantiated in logic) that 2007 team was just lucky - but no one else deserved to be in it more than them THAT YEAR

It may be that the 1900 Yale team could have beaten them along with the 2008 UF team but they didn't play in 2007 and we did and we were the best then.

Similarly it could well be that the overall standard and quality of the teams is different (lower?) this year than last year and while it might not meet the higher standards that were set earlier - it certainly doesn't mean that the rankings are illogical.

A poll that has teams with a loss over undefeated LSU is retarded.

Here's the disclaimer on their weekly poll:
quote:

How good are the teams right now? The CFN rankings go on how the teams are performing at the moment. Right now, Ben Tate and the unstoppable Auburn running game have earned their way up the charts.

Having a slightly different poll than the AP and Coaches makes for a more intriguing article (since their opinion doesn't really matter). CFN is usually very complimentary of LSU, and we've been higher in their rankings than our official ranking plenty of weeks in the past.

The real slight from CFN this week is in their "5 Thoughts" section. Check this out:
quote:

Would you take North Carolina, who needed everything in the bag to get by UConn, yet is ranked 19th in the Coaches' Poll, over an unranked Michigan? With the way Notre Dame's offense is playing, would you take Ole Miss, LSU (who is a joke at the moment at No. 7), Georgia Tech, Utah (who is not the Utah of last year, for those not paying attention), Oklahoma State, North Carolina, Kansas, Oregon State, or Missouri, all ranked teams, over the unranked Irish? You might, but you'd be wrong on roughly seven of the nine head-to-head matchups.
